.Blackzine.

This is the zine which started everything rolling. A few years ago in a state of boredom, I ended up creating the blacklist list, for toneloc, so that both myself and others in a scanning frenzy wouldn't end up calling government numbers, the RCMP in nearby towns, CSIS, or anything else.. This involved going through the entire phone book, and entering in numbers which I had felt should not be called. Eventually, I revised it, and by the time the third revision had rolled around, I decided I may as well include some of my findings so that others my have an idea of what can be found. Scanning numbers to most people is pretty much dead, and although seen primairily for hackers searching for dialups in both movies, and our so called cyberkulture, it is used extensively with phones. Some may laugh, but I even revised the common method of scanning, because it is fairly ineffective. A lot of this information can be found in my zines.

In certain parts of this, I have coined the term skanning, opposed to scanning.. Skanning to me, means maual dialing, dialing by hand, be it a prefix or suffix, whereas scanning is merely letting a wardialer run for an extended period of time to find dialups. What's the difference, other than one take more effort? Skanning, (or manual dialing) is much faster, and more effective after a little bit of practice. It gives you the opportunity to find more, and learn more.

The Zines are fairly oldschool style, and you're better off editing with ms-dos edit, for you windows kids, or whatever editor which supports high ascii characters. Blackzine 7 was written on notepad, so it'll be a little off for msDOS edit. If you use notepad or something like that, the high ascii won't show up and it will look like hell. Since they looked like hell when posted for the convienience of reading them online, I put them in zips. Since my previous artists either lost interest, or dissappeared, I will probably end up doing them all in html, and have available zips which people can download.This is still being debated. Occasionally I have some people who are willing to contribute. What I mostly need is someone who will do an entire zine. If you're interested, get in touch.

On another note. I will NOT be doing all the blackzine issues in html. It occurred to me that the reason people ask for this was because they were usually to stupid to figure out how to read the zine. Getting inquiries about how to open the file, or having peons mail me about how the file is broken or won't run, is pretty pathetic. Click on the file. It has a bkz extension. This does not mean that I used some wierd editor that nobody else has to creat the file. It's a god damn text file. You figure it out. Use some of that fucking hacker instinct and hack that zine.. Only then, will you be able to windows kidz be able to read it..one wwants to contriPwelcome.
