Aines 140B/MC Tone Generator Recently I was walking through my school and I noticed that low and behold they were working on the payphones in my school. Even better then this the linemen seemed to be on break or something. So I walked over and I was inspecting the payphone and I flipped through the work order and something was wrong with the Touch Tone Pad. Then I looked more closely at the phone, I could see the crystal's mounted in the upper left hand corner and I could see all the wired running here and there. Then when my eyes finally panned to the bottom of the phone I realized that there were aligator clips attached, to a device. It wasnt a lineman's handset so I was a little bummed but it was interesting none the less. Im not one to steal so I walked over to my friend the clepto-maniac and told him I would drop him a 10 spot if he was to walk over to the payphone and borrow the device connected to it. He was much obliged to do so and easily snuck away with the device. While all of this was happening I had decided to go get a digital camera and take a picture of the phones inards. Well wouldnt you know, just as I rounded the corner to go to the payphone I noticed a very large very angry lineman and my principal walking towards the payphone. Deciding this wasnt the best time for a Kodak Moment, I turned tail and walked back to the cafeteria to tell my friend to ditch the device in that place we put things. He did so and then we picked it up about a week later after things had calmed down. So I was finally in pocession of the device. I took it home and it turned out to be a TONE GENERATOR Model #140B/MC from AINES MFG. So off to the internet I went to see if I could possible get the phone number of the company and maybe SE a manual out of them. Well it took me about 1 search engine and then 2 clicks off there main page and I was viewing the manual for my device. The URL was http://www.aines.com (you can even order a catalog if you want to). Basically the device generates RF noise on the line so with a probe you can also buy from Aines you can trace phone wires through your house. It can also be used as a power suppy to power dead lines. You can use it to find ring/tip combinations in the event you dont remember the color combinations. You can also use it to test line conditions such as Busy/CLEAR/RINGING and incase all these features don't make you want to go out and buy one it can also test line polarity. Well if you want more information you can ROTFM at http://www.aines.com/140man.html Included with this doc is a picture of the device and a picture of the circuit board. I also included the manual for the device with this document, undersand I didn't write it and it is probably (C) Aines MFG. CORP. Enjoy the pictures of the device also.
