Mailing lists relating to DNS

Current lists

These lists are active.
bind-users
deals with BIND, the most common DNS name server implementation. There is an extensive searchable archive. This list is also available as the comp.protocols.dns.bind newsgroup. An abbreviated annoucements-only list called bind-announce is also available.
bind-workers
is the discussion forum for testers and contributors to new versions of BIND. General DNS questions are not appropriate for this forum. Archives are available.
dnsop
is the discussion forum of the DNSOP working group of the Internet Engineering Task Force. DNSOP develops guidelines for the operation of name servers and the administration of zone files. General DNS questions are not appropriate for this forum. Archives are available.
namedroppers
is the discussion forum of the DNSEXT working group of the Internet Engineering Task Force. The mission of DNSEXT is to work on extending the protocols relating to DNS. Subscription requests should be sent to namedroppers-request@ops.ietf.org. General DNS questions are not appropriate for this forum. Archives are available.
dhcwg

Former lists

These mailing lists are no longer active, although archives may still be available.
dns-security
was the discussion forum of the dnssec working group of the IETF. This list was merged with namedroppers.
domain-policy
was a high-volume mailing list discussing various domain policy issues. Carried some heated commentary, but with a low signal-to-noise ratio. Domain-policy was shut down in 2001 by VeriSign, and the archives were removed.
idn
was the discussion forum of the IDN working group of the IETF, on internationalized domain names. Archives are available.
ifwp
was a list to discuss top level domains, associated with the IFWP organisation, which was set up around the US Government white paper back in 1998. Much of the discussion on this list was critical of ICANN's control of the root zone. Partial list archives (to August 2000) are at the Internet Archive.
