This is a page where you can download the latest version of Sniffit. Sniffit runs on LINUX, SunOS, Solaris, FreeBSD and IRIX.

A little something on the use

Conditions:

You should be ROOT on your machine
The machine has to be connected to a net.
You have to be allowed to sniff (ethical condition)

If those do not apply to you or anyone else you want to give the sniffer, don't bother going on.
(Note: Sniffit supports Ethernet and PPP, but a small hack can make it support different devices)

Sniffit annouce list There is a Sniffit announce list. SUBSCRIBE and you will receive a notice whenever a new version is released. To SUBSCRIBE just send a message to coder-sniffit-request@reptile.rug.ac.be (SUBSCRIBE in Subject or body)
Mind you this is not a mailing list, so you cannot post on it, it's only use is to announce new versions or bugfixes.

It happens that mails slip trough my skimming eyes. So if you don't get a response back in 2 weeks, I have probably overlooked your mail.
I try to answer all mail I receive, so please forgive me if I lost yours, and just resend it.

Oh... if you mail me, please make sure that mail is delivrable at the return adress! (some ppl actually expect answers with fake mail addresses.. go figure)

This product includes software developed by the Computer Systems Engineering Group at Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory.
How To install:

Download the .tar.gz file
Download the PATCH ! (.tar file)
Read the README.FIRST file carefully! (included the tar-file)
APPLY THE PATCH (read README.patch)
Compile and run Sniffit like indicated in the info file.
When experiencing any problems, or having sugestions, mail me!
NEW - For LINUX users I have 'Touch of Death' a TCP connection killer that works very well together with Sniffit. InterestedNON-LINUX users are encouraged to follow this link and read the info!

Remarks

'-b' (both directions) still filters on TARGET port (this originates from the mail and password logging, perhaps I'll change it)

The netstats (interactive version) do not count the "ethernet"-wrapping around the packet in bytes/sec.
