Theres a tape available at auto-body shops that's "low stick-um"...as tearing freshly painted surfaces is a common problem in auto body work.
Ive used the blue masking tape and had good results as well.
Duct tape (90 mph tape) is for restraining prisoners, or silencing children.
"You got kids? you've got to have duct tape".. :-D

It is a very common practice to "tape out" where the studs, power
cables, and wiring appear inside the wall with different color tape,
but make sure that when you remove the tape that you don't take
paint, or chunks of sheet rock with it.
