In no way wanting to sound snarky, but a dozen PhDs for
security ... well, that's not much; your average market
maker bank would have that many on the trading strategy
for a single derivative. Perhaps, however, the main point
is that cybersecurity is by and large not suffering from a
shortage of theory but a shortage of practice. With luck,
AT&T's PhDs will study how to put what we already know
into practice, though I would not ordinarily call that a
research grade problem.
