You are correct about the market collapsing for analog receivers in TSCM in favor of all digital back-ends with specialized software, that offer real time analysis of huge chunks of the spectrum with extreme sensitivity.

There is a 325 GHz briefcase TSCM system that is up later this spring that will detect analog or digital signals with equal ease, will be a fraction of the price of any TSCM gear on the market currently, and will catch even the shortest of transmissions even if there are days or even weeks between digital signal bursts. Very cool system.

TSCM software has also reached the point where there is a multitude of programs designed specifically for performing TSCM or TEMPEST, HIJACK, NONSTOP and related emissions analysis functions. Combining this software, with some of the new hardware that is already on the market, or which is about to be rolled out is going to make the firms which have the new equipment vastly more effective then some poor fellow with technology that is even a few years old.

If you have older TSCM equipment, dump it as quickly as possible, because things are about to change, and when it does your older TSCM equipment will be almost worthless.

I also have some cool software that I have designed over the decades for TSCM, and I have been approached about providing a version to a company that has the hardware, but is trying to write the software... but I already have the software and it is mature, and quite effective.

If we combine their hardware, and my software, it will blow away a spy faster then anything else made.

I will advise as this develops.

As Analogue receivers with digital IFs (see GNU radio) start to enter the market place, AND when there are TSCM specific applications written for them, you can expect that the OSCORs will drop even lower in price.

I already have a production model 400 MHz - 4 GHz Direct Conversion receiver (with GNU-compatable APIs) in my lab, it has a 50 Mz wide IF that is being digitzedat 120 megasamples per second and provides continuous and contiguous capture of the entire spectrum. The direct conversion technology, by the late spring, is going to produce a 20 Mhz to 6 GHzreceiver with a 100 MHz wide digital IF and R&S FSL-like specifications.

This test receiver in my lab, is faster than a BlackBird(even a Blackbird with the Thunder card), Minnow or an Avengerat a fraction of the price.

The speed, resolution and amount of data such receivers collect will be very impressive, however those of us who like to "spin and grin"may still have to hang onto our OSCORs. :-)))

With GNU radio interfaces, there's an opportunity for the software developers in the TSCM community to develop a TSCM - specific application thus avoiding the high costs and proprietaryapplications of 'TSCM or SIGINT specific receivers.

Some of the info and performance specs are posted on my web site.
