Under those circumstances, particulary if one is in that world as a norm,
I wouldn't have $50k to invest in equipment or if I did, the likelihood of
actually generating repayment of the investment is unlikely.

So with that said, what about a Poor Man's Guide that can enable someone
with an interest in having perhaps used equipment from Ebay and a protocol
which could be followed so that an honest, proficient, reasonably priced sweep
could be provided to help the client as well as the TSCM on a low
budget (particularly
in this economy) by having mulitple opportunities to hone their skills
and reinforce
their operational protocols.

For example, in the days when I was active we would do balanced line
tests on the
phone lines which required a calculator, a multimeter, and a device we
made ourselves
which cost less than $10.00 (one needs some solder and soldering iron)
to make measurements
from earth ground to tip and ring. Crunching the measurements would
give us an indication
of line imbalance suggesting either a series tap due to line imbalance
 or a parallel device
due to line leakage.

I have three (3) Scanlock Mark Vb's that I trained with along with the
Eagle and other
TSA equipment under the tutilege of Glenn Whidden, one of my mentors.
I will never
get rid of that equipment mostly for sentimental reasons; however, is
there cheap readily
available supplemental equipment to upgrade, for example, the
detecting capabilities
of the Scanolock.

For those lucky enough to have an OSCOR, for example, is there other equipment
or antenna, for example, commercially available that can be used in tandem with
an OSCOR to boost its detection capability - give them a greater
detection radius.

These days I'm involved in other endeavors which completely take up
most of my time
and when I do get time, it's like needing to go back to school to figure out how
to do a balanced line test which I knew backwards and forwards almost
automatically
when I was in the game.

One of my friends told me recently he just purchased from China a cell
phone detection
unit for around $500 that kicks but. What about a list of things like
that which is
commercially available or even on Ebay to accomplish the objective:
help the client
with little money and get an opportunity to reinforce operational
protocol with an
adequate level of professionalism without breaking one's bank account.

All the best and cheers.
