Some of the police and security catelogs have advertised a lower tech =
version of this type of unit, I cannot remember the name but I remember see=
ing it on the movie SWAT in the begining bank robbery scene. Any ideas of t=
he name or brand?

For those list members who spend a lot o=
f time probing inside walls, floor cavities, conduit, and other tight p=
laces the following dirt-cheap product will be quite helpful.
Th=
ey retail for under $250 per system, and if you shop around you can usu=
ally find a tool combination for free when you purchase the scope (I pi=
cked up kits of one scope, a camera head, two extensions, and a matchin=
g compact cordless drill/screwdriver for $249.99)

You will want to purchase two or three of
these extensions if they do not come with the package you purchase.

Instead of purchasing a backup ca=
mera and cable I would recommend just purchasing two entire systems so =
you can swap out parts you may break.
I would strongly urge you to t=
ake a 6 inch length of 1 inch thick rubber hose and to place it o=
n the end of the gooseneck where it connects to the control unit, and t=
hen tape the hose segment into place. This will help you not to pull th=
e connector apart, and will keep you from creeping the insulation up th=
e gooseneck when you over flex it. It will also help you when the camer=
a tip gets caught on something sharp in the wall. I would also recommen=
d that you place a ring of red tape every 6 inches down the shaft of th=
e camera, and then write the respective length on the tape so
that you know how far inside the wall you are when you find that pinho=
le microphone. It is also fairly easy to add a BNC or RCA connector to =
the side of the unit so that you can record or print what you see prior=
to trying to retrieve it.
One helpful method of using this is t=
o turn on all the lights in a room, or use a strong strobe tube, and to=
probe up and then down into the wall cavities seeking light leaking fr=
om the room and into the wall cavity, then use the built in illuminator=
and explore the cavity as you go.
Also helpful for those of you=
too cheap to get a colonoscopy as you get older.
