Secret files found at intelligence officer's Janakpuri house'

Express News Service

New Delhi, June 28: A NUMBER of secret documents have been recovered
from the Janakpuri residence of Intelligence Officer Shib Shanker
Paul, arrested for leaking sensitive information to an American woman.

Paul, 36, had been working at the National Security Council
Secretariat as a senior system analyst for seven years.

Paul was booked under Sections 3 and 9 of the Official Secrets Act
and Section 120B (criminal conspiracy) of the IPC on June 10. He was
remanded to police custody for 14 days.

Some of the documents recovered from Paul's WZ 1401/1, Nangal Rai
house in Janakpuri to which he shifted in April are: the Strategic
Analysis report for 2003, 2004 and 2005, the Monthly intelligence
Review for 2003, 2004 and 2005, the Annual Strategic Survey for the
last three years and copies of notes exchanged between various
intelligence agencies like the Intelligence Bureau, Research &
Analysis Wing and Military Intelligence.

Police sources say Paul met the American woman to whom he gave the
information during an Indo-US cyber meet in 2005.

Police found a black polythene bag from a neighbouring house in
Janakpuri. The bag had been left there by Paul's wife.

"The black plastic bag contained a black diary and a pen drive.
Several secret documents with 'secret and restricted' mark were found
in the polythene bag. The bag contained security passwords which are
used by NSC for access inside its premises. The NSC keeps on changing
these passwords weekly. The police has seized a complete list of
these passwords," a top Special Cell investigating officer said.

Paul used to stay at a rented flat on Pankha Road but bought a house
in Janakpuri two months ago.
