Broad Band RF Surveys

If any list members has I requirement for an Broad Band RF Survey I
would like to offer several solutions which I can provide in support
of your TSCM efforts.

The first solution which I can provide is to compile a listing for
you of all FCC licensed transmitters within 5 miles of the location
you will be examining, plus all broadcast facilities (AM, FM, TV)
within 75 miles. I prepare the list and sort it by frequency to give
you a very basic cheat sheet for one specific location but based
solely or raw FCC records. This give you something like the Algood
cheat sheet that I posted last week, and which quite a few list
members found invaluable. This covers from 9 kHz to 40 GHz. This is
an 8.5 x 11 PDF document which should be place into a 3 ring binder
for use on site. For a small, rural area this will run under 50
pages, for semi-rural this will run between 50 and 75 pages, for most
suburban locations it will be over 100 pages.

The second solution is the same of the first, but also mixes in
frequencies for several thousand actual bug frequencies or electric
artifacts of bugging devices, with the threats being listed in red.
This is an 8.5 x 11 PDF document, suitable for a binder. This list
starts at a hundred pages, and goes up from there quickly, and can
very quickly turn into several hundred pages. The cost of this chart
is $500 to $750, and is will be supplied to you as a PDF file.

The third solution is the same as the second, but gives you major FCC
allocation band breaks (TV Channel 16, FM Channels, Amateur, Marine
Radar, etc) plus hundreds of common nationwide frequencies including
CB, Maritime, 2-Way Radio, FRS, ISM bands, and so forth plus and
other frequencies that are in the FCC allocations records for
civilian applications. Up to this point everything comes from FCC
records, and is a basic frequency list based on a radius around the
target. It follows the same format as the above so that you have a
compact, albeit long cheat sheet). The third solution is a bit of a
magic bullet what will make you life much, much easier when you are
out on sweeps, and the cost is minimal relative to the cost of the
rest of the sweep (we charge $1000 to $1250 for one of these
charts/cheat sheets, and normally have next day turn around time in
PDF format).

The fourth solution is a little more delicate and includes high
threat device masks that list specific frequencies used by specific
bugs, and control frequencies. This also includes three new columns
including the distance between the sweep location, and the base
station, plus the compass bearing/angle towards the base station. The
third column is the most useful and provides a calculation of what
the power levels SHOULD be outside of the building for a given fixed
station (the chart gives the level in dBm, based on free space loss,
and a clear line of site). This will tell you what should be
measurable from outside the building with a spectrum analyzer. This
list is still limited to non-federal frequencies and non-federal
allocations and non military activities. This is an alternate product
that many TSCM specialists will find helpful over then listed in the
previous option, but as you might expect the cost is three times
greater ($3,000 to $3,500 in PDF format, or $3,750 in hard copy
format in a 3 ring binder).

We also have several other solutions where we geo-locate the same
data on a series of maps (usually a 1:25,000 USGS Topo), but we can
arrange for 1:100 engineering maps although they are quite expensive
and take several weeks each to prepare for an area (Washington DC at
a 1:100 ratio costs $48,000 per copy).

Before you go out to perform a sweep, engaging us to prepare a one of
these basic cheats sheets or maps for you... The investment is
minimal, the benefits are high, and the results when you work these
into your sweep protocol will astound you, and impress your clients.

We can also go out on your behalf and perform an on-site RF survey of
the area near where you will be performing a sweep at a later date.
We provide all of the vehicles, equipment, and personnel, and provide
you with a covert and yet comprehensive RF audit of everything
present outside the building.
