Man peeps on neighbors with wireless camera, police say

FERNDALE--A Ferndale man is charged with installing a wireless
surveillance camera in the bedroom of his neighbors, a married couple
in their 20s.

Andrew N. Kaminski, 39, was arrested at his home on East Webster on Friday.

"He set the surveillance camera so that it was aimed at the couple's
bed," said Ferndale Lt. William Wilson. "We believe he did it so he
could look at the married woman."

Police said Kaminski broke into the house to install the camera and
they believe he broke in again several days later to retrieve it.

The husband called police Friday when he returned home about 3 p.m.
and found the back door of his house open and certain items
disturbed," said Ferndale Lt. William Wilson.

"A couple of days earlier the woman who lives at the home saw the
suspect on her property as though he was leaving the side door of the
house," Wilson said. "She thought it was suspicious but didn't report
it at the time."

The couple felt something wasn't right about Kaminski and the husband
told investigators about him when he reported someone had broken into
his house Friday, police said.

Police then interviewed Kaminski at his home.

Kaminski admitted to police that he had been inside the married
couple's home to retrieve a surveillance camera he had installed in
their bedroom when they weren't home, Wilson said.

"We did recover the surveillance camera from the suspect's house and
we seized his home computer," Wilson said.

Police have not yet had time to go through the computer files to find
whether there are images of the suspect's neighbors in the computer,
Wilson added.

Kaminski was arraigned Saturday in Ferndale 43rd District Court
before Magistrate Kim Wilson.

He is jailed on $90,000 cash bond. He is charged with first-degree
home invasion, a 20-year felony. Kaminski is also charged with
eavesdropping with an electronic device, and installing an
eavesdropping device -- each a two-year felony.

He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing in Ferndale District Court
at 1 p.m. Aug. 30.

"You wonder how the victims of something like this are ever going to
feel secure in their home again," Wilson said.
