Dear Friends,

I received a couple of requests for further information about the
late-1920's era patent for an Enigma-like machine, as cited in my earlier
posting.

The patent is: U.S. Patent Number 1,657,411 (1928) for a "Cyphering
Machine" invented by A. Scherbius. I have attached herein a pdf copy of
the issued patent, and am hoping that it gets posted with this email.

It is somewhat more difficult to find earlier patents on the PTO's website
because the patent classification system has changed many times over the
years, and because only patents from 1976 to present are easily key-word
searchable on their website.

I hope this information is interesting and useful information to some list
members.

Best regards,
