There was actually two flares, a short time apart, and the first
registers in the X-Ray sensors, but the second was seen visually in the
304 band, and was quite strong, but the second flare did not spike the
GOES sensors like it should have, so either it was a false flare, or
GOES did not detect it.

Notable atmospheric effects right now due to the radiation, a very good
day to do a sweep thanks to the radiation effects.

Because the flare is almost squarely Earth directed the scientists are
scrambling to compute the speed and effect of the mass ejection.

An M-Class flare is a great signal source for sweeps as the resultant RF
surge is low enough not to swamp out instruments, but strong enough to
light up any bug in the area without causing saturation problems. An
X-class on the other hand tend to be brutal on equipment, and even very
low energy X-class flares can beat up your gear.
