For several years the bane of my existence was the designed-in-the-pit-of-hell-by-Satan-himself Collins R-390 and R-392, followed by the radio design and manufactured by his spawn the Collins KWM-2. When I got out of government service I went out, bought two of the radios at a ham flea market, took both out on a boat several miles into the Ocean, chained them to cinder blocks and tossed them overboard as a wretched sacrifice to Neptune.

The URC-101's and GSC-44 also gave me untold amount of grief, and the next UGC-129 that I see will need some serious realignment after I get finished with it. I am still nursing the broken bones in my foot and toes from getting a TSC-88 dropped, er "lowered" onto it when one of the dollies broke.

KG-13's and KY-3's... and a catapult... just give me a catapult, and some card cribs

I can remember when commercial ham gear was unobutanium as it was way too expensive for a kid with a paper route saving for college. ham radio clubs were more popular in the late 60s because gear was so expensive. I was lucky to have a nearby club station that had a complete Collins S Line station equipped with teletype that was a 'wonder' to use.

We used to gather on Friday nights and experiment, build projects, antennas, and work the world from the Pacific when 20 was wide open.

2 meter repeaters had only started and re-tuning old Motorola 43Gs to get on2 meters was a bit of a black art so we would hold Saturday morning tune-up sessions in the parking lot where area hams could come and get theirsurplus taxi radios tooperate.

John Pavelich CD, MEng Remember this motto to live by: "Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, martini in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO HOO what a ride!"
