Hello Everyone!
What are your plans for Simulated Emergency Test (SET) this year? It will =
be held on the first Saturday in October.=20
For two years in a row, Alabama has finished FOURTH in the country out of 5=
2 participating sections! =20
Jefferson County pulled out all the stops and scored a 555 in 2009. That pl=
aced us in FOURTH place in the country out of 330 county/local level partic=
ipating groups! Jefferson County's score alone was higher than 27 states/s=
ections!
Despite Calhoun and Jefferson both scoring over 500 points in 2009, Alabama=
's total fell by over 900 points. This appears to be due to fewer groups p=
articipating (14 in 2008, 12 in 2009) and lower scores (11 groups scored 16=
8 or higher in 2008, only five scored 168 or higher in 2009).
So I ask, what you doing to be ready, resilient and responsive? Jefferson C=
ounty plans to participate along with Shelby County this year in a Metropol=
itan SET. We are activating several served agencies and asking our nine Je=
fferson County hospitals with Amateur Radio equipment to participate. Plea=
se let me know if you plan to participate and what frequencies & times you =
plan to operate. =20
This year's SET will be like no other. The Alabama, Northern Florida and G=
eorgia Sections will all participate together in Hurricane Jay. =20
More information:

k>
So far, the following groups will be participating:=20
Alabama State EMA (Les, N1LF, Emergency Coordinator, will activate the Stat=
e EOC.)
Jefferson, Shelby, Talladega, Calhoun Counties.
I look forward to hearing from each of you on how your group can help put A=
labama over the top this year. Can we be number ONE in more than football =
this year?!?

Hub Harvey, N4HUB, ALEM
Alabama Section Assistant Emergency Coordinator
