The original CALEA wiretap system was (allegedly) a standalone Solaris 5
machine sitting on every CO's voice network, with a default root account
and password and a modem hanging off of the console port. Dial in,
listen to whatever. FBI and DEA agents investigating drug rings were
being wiretapped themselves, now they want to include a backdoor in
every communication device.
