Some in the energy conservation world want to put
electric meters with some sort of noise-recognition
in them so that your electric bill has itemization
for all the usages to which you put electricity in
your home. It's out of the lab according to a
cousin, but I don't know where it is in use. (And
some ideas on this include you leaving word, of som
sort with your utility that IF you are not home AND it is
over 100F THEN remotely turn back your air conditioner,
and so forth and so on.)
I'm surprised James didn't suggest a motor-generator
pair as an isolation device...
