Archives Query

I am prepping the old list archives for posting, and would like to
ask the list membership what they prefer as the format of the archives.

Our first option is to post individual mesaages, but this is going to
result in over 10,000 messages and is going to make it a bit of a
bear for people to navigate.

The second option is to only post the daily digests, but this will
result is several thousand digests. I could set it up so that we have
a weekly digest, or even monthly digest but some of the digests will
be huge and doing a daily digest is probably the best option for the
digest type.

The list archives actually goes all the way back to the listserv in
1991, but list traffic didn't really pickup until the Internet caught
on around 1993/1994. There is a small amount of pre-98 traffic, but
the bulk of the list comes from post 1998. While I do have some of
the pre-1991 archives (pre TSCM-L) it is a hassle to pull them off of
floppy. I did find some of the really old unclassified stuff from
back in 1984 and 1985 that I had posted but it was mostly stuff
written in Fortran to drive test equipment, with some C some years after that.

I am leaning towards merely dropping 10,000+ posts from post 1997 as
individual files or digests, and organizing them into
folders/directories by year as simple .txt files and then indexing
them so that my on-site search engine will make it easier to find
stuff. The list was moved to Yahoo in 1998 so it is fairly simple to
post stuff from after that date.

Please email me your thoughts on the matter privately.
