Re: [TSCM-L] {1656} Re: Infrared transmitters I guess I have to ask why that would be.  Is there some advantage to h= ave considerably (500 times) less amplification of light?

I look at it as a worse case IR laser being used.  If you are not in a= direct line you may not see it with Gen 1.  With Gen 3 + you can see = the scatter as it passess through a window.

Please explain.

We had about 45 minutes of audio on the recorder but it wa= s mostly the car radio. The device was set up to be voice activated so the = radio turned it on whenever it (the radio) was turned on. We did not have t= he IR transceiver so I of course could not do the download myself. I backtr= acked to the manufacturer who claimed it could be downloaded in a minute or= so. I did not do an IR scan because it was a vehicle and I did not suspect= an IR device in that environment, live and learn I guess. We did find it o= n the physical search however. These things are available from various manu= facturers.

Part of my procedure is to take a walk aroud= the facility and look for IR with Gen 3 night vision.  IR comes acros= s like a flashlight and is easy to see.

If there was a recording (audio) from a vehicle for a day or even a few hou= rs, how long would it take to download the data using light?  It would= seem that you might have to wait  for stalled traffic.

I found a digital audio rec= order that was placed in the rear taillight assembly of a vehicle in which = the output of the recorder was sent to an IR transmitter, also in the assem= bly, allowing the recorder to be downloaded via the IR link. The device hel= p four hours of talk and could download in under a minute. Sp all you had t= o do was pull up behind the vehicle with the device at a stop light and you= would have your remote audio with no RF involved at all. We can talk more = off-line unless someone else is interested.
