Note: Another source of drivers is the Agilent Developer Network (ADN) download page. The ADN site requires a login, but registration is free.

These Instrument Drivers may be downloaded free of charge, provided they are used with Agilent Technologies products.

There are at least five types of Instrument Drivers:

VXIplug&play Instrument Drivers
Also known as Plug&Play or Universal Instrument Drivers. VXIplug&play is a term indicating conformance to a set of system-level standards, produced by the VXIplug&play Systems Alliance . These standards apply to instrument drivers, soft front panels, installation packages, documentation, technical support and application development environments.

VXIplug&play Frameworks are sets of industry-standard instrument drivers available on popular operating systems such as Windows 3.1, Windows 95, Windows NT, HP-UX, and others for programming in VEE, C, or Visual BASIC. VXIplug&play drivers allows you to develop application programs that are portable across computer platforms and I/O Interfaces. Instrument manufacturers must specify which of these frameworks are supported. Windows 95 and NT VXIplug&play drivers are recommended for new development.

Panel Instrument Drivers
Also known as Classic, VEE, or ITG Instrument Drivers. A Panel driver is essentially a virtual front panel, and makes instrument programming interactive and graphical. Panel drivers are supported only by VEE.

SCPI Instrument Drivers
Also known as DSCPI (for Downloadable Standard Commands for Programmable Instruments) Instrument Drivers. SCPI drivers download into VXI Command Modules (E1300, E1301, E1306, E1405, E1406) and interpret SCPI commands into register-level I/O. It is highly recommended the SCPI driver be installed whether the VXI instrument is programmed using its VXIplug&play driver or using SCPI commands embedded in an I/O language. This information does not apply to message-based modules which have built-in SCPI drivers.

I-SCPI Instrument Drivers
I-SCPI stands for Interpreted Standard Commands for Programmable Instruments. Register-based VXI modules installed in Embedded VXI Controllers or MXI or VXLink systems (V743, EPC-7, EPC-8, E6232, E1489, E1383, E1483) require an I-SCPI driver to provide programming capability. This information does not apply to message-based modules which have built-in SCPI drivers.

Agilent IntuiLink Connectivity Software
IntuiLink is Agilent's free connectivity software solution that links test and measurement instrument data to PC applications. IntuiLink consists of two key elements: 1) PC Application toolbar: allows easy transfer of measurement data and images from instruments into PC (MS Word and Excel) with little or no programming, and 2) ActiveX/COM programming objects to simplify automating test.
