The HP 5314A universal counter combines excellent
performance and traditional HP quality with a very attractive
price. The general-purpose counter delivers high-quality
measurements for applications in production test, instrument
calibration, frequency monitoring, telecommunications
maintenance, education, training, and service. Functionality includes frequency, period, and time interval measurement. A battery option makes the HP 5314A especially suited to field and portable applications.

Reliable measurementSine wave, square wave, and pulse measurements are easily performed.Low parts countThe design and excellent MTBF ensure long-term, reliable service.Easy-to-useThe front panel includes a seven-digit LED display, a separate/common switch for ease in making single or dual-channel time-interval measurements, and HOLD button for single measurements. Quick ratio, ratio average, and totalize functions speed measurements.Reliable triggeringSpecial circuitry prevents counting a signal if it is not large enough to give a correct reading. This avoids miscounting on low-level noise.Optional time baseA temperature-compensated crystal oscillator gives a three-fold improvement in aging, as well as a ten-fold improvement in frequency variation over a 0 to 40 degree C temperature range. This option is recommended whenever high stability with temperature or less time between calibrations is desired.
