HP 53310A Modulation Domain Analyzer

[ Summary ][ Features ][ Specifications ][ Key Literature ][ Ordering ][ Assistance ][ Related ]
The HP 53310A is Hewlett-Packard's easiest-to-operate and lowest-cost modulation domain analysis product. An intuitive data display gives you a direct view of jitter or modulation. Parameters such as peak-to-peak deviation, carrier frequency, and modulation rate are quickly and automatically displayed. Built-in analysis, including automated mean, standard deviation, and probability functions, provides detailed characterization of jitter.

In much the same way an oscilloscope provides insight into the dynamics of changing voltage, the HP 53310A provides insight into changes in frequency or time-interval measurements. You save time reviewing designs and locating problems. Use the HP 53310A to study frequency drift in electronic equipment; characterize jitter of digital communications systems, peripherals, and mechanical systems; determine frequency hopping performance of an agile transmitter, or measure cellular phone switching from cell to cell.

Simple operation

Autoscale, at the press of a button, analyzes the signal, and the proper instruments settings are selected. Trigger directly on your modulation or periodic jitter. The large display and fast update rate let you immediately see results of a signal or measurement change.

Continuous frequency

Without the dead-time between measurements traditionally found in frequency counters or time interval analyzers, signals are better analyzed and information is not lost between samples.

Advanced triggering

A stable display of modulation can be seen without an external reference signal.

Frequency Measurements

	Range
		Channel A: 10 Hz to 200 MHz
		Channel B: 10 Hz to 100 MHz
		Channel C: 50 MHz to 2.5 GHz

	Maximum Measurement Rate
		Fast Histogram: 1.5 MHz
		Other Modes: 1 MHz

Resolution: Maximum available measurement resolution or
		display resolution, whichever is greater

Maximum Available Measurement Resolution (Auto Sampling):
Refer to the HP 53310A Data Sheet.

		Display Resolution:
vs Time, or Hisotgram of vs Time
				Window Off: Display Span/256
				Window On: Display Span/224

			Fast Histogram: Display Span/450

Accuracy: +/- (Resolution + (Frequency x Reference Error))

Time Interval Measurements
	+Time Interval
Range: +20 ns to +1 second
		Maximum Measurement Rate:
			Fast Histogram: 2.5 MHz
			Other Modes: 1.25 MHz
	+/- Time Interval
Range: -0.5 second to +0.5 second
		Maximum Measurement Rate:
			Fast Histogram: 2.0 MHz
			Other Modes: 1.25 MHz
Resolution: Maximum available measurement resolution or
			display resolution, whichever is greater

		Maximum Available Measurement Resolution:

Square root of ((200 ps rms*)^2 + (Threshold Trigger Errors)^2)

	*125 ps rms typical

Note:	1. Threshold Trigger Errors are usually negligible for
			input slew rates > 5V/us.
			2. Through averaging, Maximum Available Measurement
			Resolution can be significantly improved.

		Display Resolution:
vs Time, or Histogram of vs Time
				Panorama Off: Display Span/256
				Panorama On: Display Span/224

			Fast Histogram: Display Span/450

		Accuracy: +/- Resolution
+/- (Time Interval x Reference Error)

+/- Start Threshold Level Timing Error

+/- Stop Threshold Level Timing Error

			+/- 1 ns Systematic Error
