The HP 5364A Microwave Mixer/Detector extends the benefits of the Modulation Domain (the frequency or phase of a signal expressed as a function of time) to frequencies from 2 to 18 GHz. When used with the HP537XA Frequency and Time Interval Analyzers and a local oscillator, the HP 5364A can recover phase, frequency, and various digital modulations, such as QPSK, from a microwave carrier.

Radar signals, including chirped or phase-coded varieties, are easily and quickly characterized on a single-shot basis. Agile carriers used in radar, EW, and communications applications are measured directly. Switching speed, overshoot and settling time of components such as VCOs can be measured under precisely the conditions in which they will be applied. Source stability, jitter, and staggered pulse repetition rates can also be studied with an HP5364A-based system.

Quality

The IF channel has very low group delay distortion over a 500 MHz IF bandwidth and preserves phase information (such as that digitized by the HP 537XA) through the downconversion process.

Captures single-shot

Complex and rapidly-changing signals are downconverted with minimal distortion.

Includes video

Video output can be used directly to measure pulsewidth, rise and fall time, and PRF/PRI.
