HP 59306A Relay Actuator

The HP 59306A Relay Actuator simplifies the control of external HP-IB devices. Front panel pushbuttons make it easy to establish and debug signal routing before a system is placed in remote operation. The HP 59306A provides control for a variety of devices, including microwave coaxial switches like the HP 8761A/B, and microwave programmable step attenuators, such as the HP 8494A through 8496G/H, using external dc power supplies.

Six Form-C relays provide either manual or remote management of instruments. Relays are wired to meet IEC standards for the switching of primary power and are specified to switch 28 Vdc or 115 Vac at 0.5 amps. Each switch can be programmed independently, or multiple relays can be switched together.

Local-Reset

Unless a local lock-out bus command has been utilized (usually for systems work), the local-reset returns control from remote operation to the front panel.

HP-IB Programmability

The HP 59306A minimizes signal losses by allowing placement of microwave attenuators and switches near the signal paths. Custom-assembled signal multiplexing and step attenuator setups can be placed under remote control in automatic test systems.

REAR PANEL

Address Switch Assembly: Switches A(sub)1 through A(sub)5 establish listen
address on bus. Switches A(sub)6 and A(sub)7 are spares.

Output Terminals: Banana jacks arranged in Rows A, B, and C
(common) and numbered to correspond with front panel switches 1 
through 6. Front panel program control determines connection of
terminal C to relay terminal A or B. Relays can be operated 
independently or as a group, that is, all As (Bs) to all Cs at the
same time.


Bus Connector: 24-pin connector (1251-3283; Amphenol
57-20240-2): mates with Cable HP 10833A/B/C/D.




FRONT PANEL

On Indicator: Light means the 59306A is powered.

Remote Indicator: Light means the 59306A is under the
control of remote programming and the front panel controls are
disabled.


Local Reset: Pushbutton resets to front panel control unless
“local lockout” command has been sent.


Pushbuttons: Provide local control for relays, light indicates
corresponding relay has terminal A connected to common C; no light indicates
terminal B is connected to common C.


Programming Codes:
	

	A1...A6 (common terminal “C” is connected to relay 1...6
in position “A”).

	B1...B6 (common terminal “C” is connected to relay 1...6
in position “B”).


	For example, to switch common “C” to position “A” on relay
2, address the 59306A as a listener and send: the string, “A2”.


	Note: Multiple 59306As cannot be addressed simultaneously
to receive the same programming code.
