HP 59553A Fiber Optic Receiver

[ Summary ][ Features ][ Specifications ][ Key Literature ][ Ordering ][ Assistance ][ Related ]
The HP 59553A Fiber Optic Receiver is located at remote equipment installations to receive a distributed signal from a common clock. The HP 59553A receives the signal on fiber-optic cable, separates the time code and digital waveforms, reconstructs the analog time code, and feeds out each signal on a BNC connector.

The HP 59553A, used with HP 59552A Fiber Optic Distribution Amplifier, provides a simple, modular approach to signal routing. The fiber-optic products provide clean, timing-quality transmission to analysis, monitoring, and control equipment in power utility substations, or any application involving precise frequency and time signals. In a typical application requiring distribution of one pulse per second (pps) and IRIG-B time code, the HP 59553A ensures an identical, synchronous clock signal and precise time of day at each distribution point.

Configurable

The unit is factory-configured for "combined mode" to distribute one analog and one digital signal. If your application requires transmission of only one digital signal, the HP 59553A can be reconfigured for "digital mode" to pass signals without the delay or throughput restrictions associated with combining digital and analog information.

Both warranted specifications and operating characteristics are covered below.
To distinguish warranted specifications from operating characteristics, the
word “nominal” appears next to a characteristic.

Combined Mode (Digital)

  fiber-optic cable, approximately 5 ns/meter)
Output pulse width: 70 us (nominal)
Input pulse polarity: positive or negative (selectable with internal jumper)
Output pulse, risetime/falltime: <5 ns into a 50 ohm load
Output short-term jitter: 5 ns rms (nominal) when signal transmitted 1 km

Combined Mode (Analog)
