HP 85060 and HP 85090 Series Electronic Calibration (ECal) Kits

Electronic calibration (ECal) is a fast, easy and accurate method of calibrating Vector Network Analyzers. The new RF & Microwave ECal Systems are easily controlled via a PC running Windows® 95 or NT 4.0.

ECal is an ideal ergonomic solution for calibrating network analyzers. Performing a full 2-port calibration takes less than half the time and number of connections using ECal versus mechanical calibration kits. Furthermore, the accuracy of the calibration is comparable between electronic and mechanical methods.

Traditional mechanical calibrations require intensive operator interaction which is prone to errors. With ECal, the operator simply connects the ECal module to the network analyzer and the software controls the rest.

ECal modules are available for RF & Microwave frequencies, in Type-N, 3.5-mm and 7-mm connectors. ECal systems are composed of an RF or Microwave module (or both) and a PC interface kit. The PC interface kit connects the ECal modules to the PC, as the name implies. The parallel cables needed for the connection are supplied in the HP 85097A kit. The 85097A PC interface kit must be ordered separately.

Electronic calibration (ECal) replaces the usual calibration kit standards with a solid-state calibration module. The module is controlled by PC software to present different impedances to the test ports. A full two-port calibration can be done with a single connection in just a few minutes, with less chance for error and less wear on connectors.

An ECal system requires an HP 85097A PC Interface Kit and an HP 85090 Series Calibration Module of the appropriate connector type. The HP 85097A includes software for Windows® 95 and NT® 4.0 systems, and it is compatible with the HP 8753 C/D/E.
