Electronic calibration (ECal) is a fast, easy and accurate method of calibrating vector network analyzers. The new RF ECal system is easily controlled via a PC running Windows® 95 or NT® 4.0.
ECal is an ideal solution for calibrating network analyzers. Performing a full 2-port calibration takes less than half the time and number of connections using ECal versus mechanical cal kits. Furthermore, the accuracy of the calibration is comparable between electronic & mechanical methods.
Traditional mechanical calibrations require intensive operator interaction which is prone to errors. With ECal, the operator simply connects the ECal module to the network analyzer and the software controls the rest.
An RF ECal module contains solid-state devices that switch in resistive, conductive & insulated elements to produce open, short, loads and thru states. Each of these states is calibrated at the Hewlett-Packard standards laboratory and the calibration data is stored in an EEPROM. A heater which is located in the RF ECal module regulates the temperature of the module to 28 deg C. The module has been designed to be both electrically & mechanically very stable and reliable.
