HP 85990A Multicarrier Signal Generator |
Whether you're manufacturing broadband devices, or verifying operation of your broadband network, you need to evaluate its electrical performance under realistic signal conditions. The HP 85990A multicarrier signal generator can quickly and easily simulate a broadband headend to verify electrical specifications and distortion performance. The multicarrier signal generator provides up to 180 clean, stable, noise-free carriers from 5 to 1100 MHz for convenient testing of distortion performance of broadband components and communication systems. The frequencies of these modules are customer specified, as is the mainframe capacity. For systems larger than 129 carriers, two cabinets with interconnecting cables are used. The HP 85990A is particularly well suited to making CTB, CSO, and cross modulation measurements for cable television component manufacturers, headend installers, and operators.

The mainframe size and type. Three master and slave configurations are offered as standard options. A master mainframe consists of a main unit that houses the power supply, main output attenuator, and CPU board; subframes (housing the carrier modules); and the output unit. Specifying a larger capacity allows expansion. Simply buy additional frequency modules to install in your existing mainframe as you need changes. Once a master mainframe is filled to its capacity, further system expansion requires a slave mainframe. A slave mainframe is controlled by the master mainframe and consists of a power supply and subframe units which hold the carrier modules. 2. The number of individual carrier modules required in your test application and their respective frequencies. The HP 85990A can be provided with up to 180 total channels, with 129 maximum in a single rack. The number of channels and the rack size chosen determine the list price of the source. 3. The required pulse modulation frequency. 15.75 kHz (NTSC) is standard. Option 002 specifies 15.625 kHz (PAL). 4. The HP 85990A features standard modulation duty cycles of 50% primary and 19% secondary. You may specify the secondary duty cycle. 5. A preferred output impedance. 75 ohms is standard. Option 004 specifies 50 ohms.
