Product Summary

The HP B3740 real-time software analyzer combines the versatility of a logic analyzer with an interface tailored to software developers. Use this software analyzer to link your real-time trace to your high- level source language. Coupled with the HP 16505A prototype analyzer, the software analyzer provides a source code view of program execution.

It uses any of the HP 1655XA state and timing logic analyzer modules to acquire data. These modules let you use symbolics to set up trace conditions, using a trigger macro library designed for software developers.

• Source Line Referencing linked to a Logic Analyzer
  The software analyzer provides a real-time trace linked to the high-level source language, time correlated to activity captured by the rest of the logic analyzer's acquisition modules. You can easily move from a chart or histogram view of bus activity to source code, all on the same screen. HP provides a true 'signal to source' complete analysis environment.

• See Source-Referenced Trace on Your Computer
  The software analyzer acts as a file browser, enabling you to see the source code that was actually executed in real-time by the target system. In another window, the trace information captured during program execution is displayed in disassembled assembly code.

• Source Code Available for Debugging
  The Software Analyzer uses your source code to make debugging easy. First, the software analyzer presents source code and correlates it to trace data. Next, you can use source code to specify trigger location. Both features help you find and eliminate program bugs quickly and efficiently. The Software Analyzer reduces the amount of time you spend looking for problems and increases your time to insight.

• Extensive Symbolic Support with Your Language System
  The software analyzer provides extensive symbolic support. Symbols from your software program can be used to specify trigger conditions and are also listed in the trace display. Examples of supported symbols include: variable names, function and procedure names, and module names. File formats supported include:
  • HP/MRI IEEE-695
  • Elf/Dwarf
  • Intel OMF86
  • TI COFF
  • Intel OMF286
  • ASCII
  • Intel OMF386

  If your language system generates a different file format, a generic ASCII format is supported. You simply create an ASCII file, which maps symbol names to addresses.

• Supported on the HPPrototype Analyzer and UNIX and DOS Computers
  The HP Software Analyzer can be used alone, on your PC or workstation, or with the HP Prototype Analyzer. The software analyzer is supported on the following computer systems:
  • PCs running Microsoft Windows
  • Sun Sparc(r) Workstations running Solaris or SUN OS
  • HP series 700 workstations running HP-UX.
