HP E2550A Quality Advisor, QA 100![]()
|
The Hewlett Packard Quality Advisor is a digital video analyzer designed specifically to eliminate illegal colors and sparkles from 4:2:2 (CCIR601) digital video. The HP Quality Advisor legalizes colors by reducing saturation, rather than clipping. This ensures broadcastable video without the necessity of clipping. Clipping is undesirable because it can result in tearing, smearing or even a different color or brightness when the signal is encoded. A user can choose to have automatic color correction. Or, a user can choose to have the illegal colors highlighted and make their own corrections.
The HP Quality Advisor incorporates a new quality monitoring feature, Error Detection and Handling (EDH), that eliminates the need for constant vigilance against transmission-induced artifacts (like sparkles), saving hours of valuable time. It works as follows: A checkword is computed for each full field, active field and ancillary field. These three checkwords are then inserted in the digital video stream. When this video signal is again passed thru the Quality Advisor, a second set of checkwords are computed and compared to the first set. Any difference between these sets, then, indicates that a transmission error has occurred. All errors are logged with VITC timecode for precise location. This information then allows for locating the error and determining where the error occurred (e.g., full field, active field, or ancillary field).
The EDH insertion and detection features of the HP QA 100 are also available in the HP EDH Inserter (EDH 10). The EDH 10 is similiar to the QA 100 except that it only include the Error, Detection, and Handling functionality.
