HP E6310A Video Elementary Stream Analyzer

HP's Video Elementary Stream Analyzer is a software package that runs on the award-winning HP E6277B MPEGscope Plus. It extends the capabilities of this powerful instrument by providing in-depth detailed analysis of the MPEG video elementary stream, right down to the block level. This application performs detailed post-capture testing on the video elementary stream including syntax and semantic checking, header information decoding, and macroblock, bit and VBV buffer statistics. It also allows users to decode and display video sequences for quick visual verification, and to perform detailed frame content analysis using the innovative macroblock display. The ES Analyzer makes it easy to visualize data such as the GOP structure, and to optimize where your bits are being used most in your encoder algorithms.

The Elementary Stream Analyzer's measurement and analysis capabilities can be used to support bitstream verification, encoder algorithm development and optimization, and interoperability troubleshooting, particularly in cases of encoder/decoder conflicts.

Supports all profiles and levels specified by MPEG-2, including (but not limited to):

4:2:2 Profile

This application will analyze and decode all 18 formats specified by the ATSC, including 1080i, 720p, 480i and more!

Syntax and semantic checking with full video decoding:

check the bitstream conforms to MPEG syntax and semantic requirements
decode and view the video sequence frame by frame

Decode and analyze the following ES header information:

sequence header and extension
Group Of Pictures (GOP) header
Picture header
Picture coding extension
Slice header

Macroblock analysis:

Macroblock type
Motion vectors
Quant matrix
number of bits per Macroblock

Statistics:

bits utilization per frame, with identified I-, P-, & B-frames
graphical display of the average bit rate

VBV Buffer analysis:

VBV buffer occupancy measurement, using both the VBV-delay method and the leak method
