HP E7310A TTCN Productivity Tool for HP BSTS

The HP E7310B TTCN Translator is a workstation-based tool that generates C-code corresponding to an Abstract Test Suite (ATS) specified in the Machine-Processable (MP) form of TTCN. The ATS can be specified in the International Standard (IS) version of TTCN or in the Draft International Standard (DIS) version of TTCN.

Tree and Tabular Combined Notation (TTCN) is an internationally standardized notation (ISO 9646-3) used for specifying test scenarios. There are two forms of TTCN: the graphical form (TTCN-GR) and the Machine Processable form (TTCN-MP). The GR form is used for developing abstract test suites using a TTCN editor while the MP form is a portable ASCII representation of a test suite.

The C-code generated by the Translator makes use of routines defined in the TTCN library and Broadband Test Manager library. The TTCN library and the user-defined routines provide an interface between the C executable test suite environment and the broadband user programming environment.

The HP Broadband Tool generates code for the ETS and automatically generates input to the Test Manager for browsing the test suite structure and filling out the PICS/PIXIT questions. Test suites that are implemented using the Translator are capable of generating a detailed event log. The event trace supplements the conformance log that is generated by the BSTS.

With TTCN, users get complete, formal and unambiguous ATSs. The translator helps user develop proprietary ATSs/ETSs but also helps customize existing ATSs to suit local needs. A Syntax/semantic checker provides a powerful tool to develop correct ATSs.

This tool can help to realize better products in less time: an ETS generated by the Translator accurately reflects its corresponding ATS. Also, it can help maximize productivity: once the ATS is free of syntax/semantic errors, an ETS can generally be developed quite rapidly! Maintenance is much easier when done in TTCN. Embedded diagnostic TTCN trace statements help user quickly pinpoint problems during testing.

NOTE: The TTCN productivity tools are also available for the PT series tester, and the HP9000 series 700 workstation, with operating system HP-UX 9.x or later.
