The Telecom Protocol Test Manager Advanced Programmatic Interface (API) is a run-time environment which allows remote user control of the building, operation and execution of a broadband test campaign from a workstation.
Through the API, a user-written C-program, created with the Test Manager API library, can be executed on a workstation which is remotely connected to a tester through a TCP-IP connection. The library makes the link between the test scripts and the test execution environment (i.e. the Test Manager).
The API can accomplish this because it has components that reside on both the workstation and the BSTS (the API library and the test suite loader (TSL) for the test campaign).
The BSTS runs a background daemon that awaits instructions. It listens to the RPC port for API commands coming from the workstation. A test management program can control the execution of test suites at the same time as other instruments and switch functions.
Test Manager API resides on the Unix Workstation. It communicates with the tester through a TCP-IP connection. A Daemon on the tester awaits commands from the API and pilots execution of a test suite via Test Manager.
