If you have any problems during this upgrade process, please contact Hewlett-Packard Australia Ltd. Communications Measurement Division Customer Support PO Box 221 Blackburn, 3130 Victoria, Australia Telephone: +61 3 9272 8633 Fax: +61 3 9210 5570 Email: ato_support@aus.hp.com Part 1-Recovering the software ============================== This procedure can be used to restore the E5200A Broadband Service Analyzer and E5200A option 050 (laptop PC) software to factory default state. It assumes the worst case, where the service analyzer fails to boot when it is switched on. ------- N O T E ------- This procedure will overwrite ALL existing user files (for example, PDU files, capture data and macros). ------- Step 1-To create an external boot source ---------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------------- | PC | Unix | ---------------------------------------------------------------- | Refer to Part 2 of this | Obtain the document "Configuring| | document, "Restoring the | a HP-UX workstation as an E5200A| | E5200A opt 050 (Laptop PC) | alternative boot source" by | | to Factory Default State". | either viewing the Web site | | | within the HP firewall | | | http://www-ato.aus.hp.com/support/sup.htm | | | OR | | | sending Email to | | | ato_support@hp.com | | | requesting the document. | ---------------------------------------------------------------- Step 2-Set the service analyzer to boot from an external source --------------------------------------------------------------- The most efficient way to do this is using a serial terminal. 1 Connect a 9600N81 "dumb" terminal to the E5200A's serial port (9600 baud, No parity, 8 data bits, 1 stop bit). Any PC with this configuration will work. Ensure that you use the correct serial cable (2-3 crossover, 5 throughmode). This PC must have Microsoft Windows® loaded-it does not require any service analzyer specific software loaded. ------- N O T E ------- The HP Omnibook 600 series shipped with the analyzer has a preconfigured window icon in the "HP Broadband Analyzer" windows group. Double-click the "HP Analyzer Direct Serial Terminal" icon to automatically open a terminal window with the above configuration. ------ 2 Cycle the E5200A's power while pressing the ENTER key. The "Basic E5200A Configuration" menu shows within five seconds. ------------- C A U T I O N ------------- If you invoke the serial connection, the service analyzer configuration menu halts the service analyzer's boot cycle. ------------- 3 Select menu option 2, Change current boot paramaters. 4 Check the service analyzer's boot parameters to ensure the following are set: ---------------------------------------------------------------- | PC | Unix | ---------------------------------------------------------------- | Boot Source | Boot Source | | Select 2 - Network | Select 2 - Network | | | | | Note For the following four parameters, press ENTER to retain| | original setting. | | | | | E5200A Ethernet IP Address | E5200A Ethernet IP Address | | : 10.0.0.1 | : | | | | | E5200A IP Netmask | E5200A IP Netmask | | : 255.255.255.0 | : | | | Set this to the netmask of your | | Host IP Address | UNIX network's subnet. | | : 10.0.0.2 | | | | Host IP Address | | Host Gateway IP Address | : | | 1. (For PC users, this is guaranteed if you restored your PC.) 7 Reboot the service analyzer by either * toggling the power switch from OFF to ON * selecting option 3 from the Serial Connection Main Menu The reboot takes approximately 10 minutes. Step 3-Reinitialise the service analzyer's hard disk ---------------------------------------------------- You reinitialise the hard disk from SAF. 1 Double click the "HP Analyzer Terminal" on the Omnibook PC to log into the service analyzer's command line interface. 2 Enter your username and password. The default is E5200A/broadband. 3 Type "saf" at the prompt to invoke the System Administration Functions. 4 From the System Administration Functions Main Menu, select option 6, Re-initialize the hard disk. 5 Select option 1, Re-initialze disk (no confirmation performed). This takes approximately one second. 6 Select option 0 to exit out of SAF. The service analyzer's hard disk is now initialized. Step 4-Restore the service analyzer's file system from an external boot source ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ This process typically takes approximately 40 minutes. 1 Perform the following steps according to the platform you use. ----------------------------------------------------------------- | PC | Unix | ----------------------------------------------------------------- | After NFS Mounting the | After NFS Mounting the E5200A to| | E5200A to the laptop PC, you| the UNIX network, you can | | can directly copy the | directly copy the software | | software image on the PC | image onto the service | | onto the service analyzer's | analyzer's hard disk. | | hard disk. | | | | | | 1 From Acadia's "NFS | 1 Using the UNIX "mount"command | | Client" utility, mount | command, mount :/ide| | "e5200a:/ide" to an | to a mount point on the | | unused drive designator. | UNIX Network, for example | | (Specify "e5200a:/ide" as | > /etc/mount :/ide | | the mount path and double | | | click the "mount" button). | Note Superuser access on the | | | UNIX machine is required to | | 2 Launch the File Manager. | invoke the "/etc/mount" command.| | | | | 3 From the "File" pull-down| 2 Copy the E5200A software | | menu, select "Copy" and | image onto the service | | enter the following | analyzer: | | details: | > cp -R /usr/e5200a | | | | | Copy From c:\usr | | | Copy To d:\usr | | | (assuming d: is the drive | | | designator for e5200a:/ide) | | ----------------------------------------------------------------- ------- N O T E ------- If mounting the service analyzer hard disk to the external boot source device still fails, then the hard disk may be damaged. If this is the case, notify ATO_SUPPORT so that we can provide you with a "fully loaded" hard disk. -------- Step 5-Restore E5200A network paramaters to factory default state ----------------------------------------------------------------- The most efficient way to do this is using a serial terminal. 1 Connect a 9600N81 "dumb" terminal to the service analyzer's serial port (9600 baud, No parity, 8 data bits, 1 stop bit). Any terminal application with the above configuration will work. ------- N O T E ------- The HP Omnibook 600 series shipped with the analyzer has a preconfigured window icon in the "HP Broadband Analyzer" windows group. Double click the "HP Analyzer Direct Serial Terminal" icon to automatically open a terminal window with the above configuration. -------- Ensure that you use the correct serial cable (2-3 crossover, 5 throughmode). 2 Cycle the service analyzer's power while pressing the ENTER key. The "Basic E5200A Configuration" menu heading should appear within five seconds. ------- N O T E ------- Invoking the serial connection the E5200A configuration menu HALTS the E5200A's boot cycle. ------- 3 Select option 0, Restore Factory default boot paramters. 4 At the "Restore factory defaults - Are you sure? (y|n)" prompt, type y for yes. 5 Reboot the service analyzer. This should take approximately two minutes. The E5200A and E5200A option 050 (laptop PC) are both now in factory default state. Part 2-Restoring the Laptop PC ============================== This part describes restoring the E5200A Opt 050 laptop PC's (referred to as the "laptop PC") internal hard disk using the CD-ROM. ------- N O T E ------- Before you start the upgrade procedure, make sure you back up all user generated files on the PC since the upgrade process might delete them. Please see the HP Broadband Service Analyzer User's Guide for backup procedures. ------- There are two options to restore the laptop PC. Option 1-Standalone ------------------- Option 1 requires a pre-created a bootable diskette containing the configuration and restore utilities provided on the CD-ROM. When booted, this diskette automatically configures one of a selection of CD-ROM drive and interface combinations, then executes the restore utility. This is the preferred option when a CD-ROM drive is not already accessible from DOS and one of the supported CD-ROM drive and interfaces is available. Requirements ............ You need * the HP Broadband Service Analyzer Software Installation Disk (CD-ROM) p/n E5200-10200 * an alternate PC with a 3.5" floppy disk drive and CD-ROM drive combination * one of the following combinations connected to the laptop PC + a SCSI-II CD-ROM drive (most manufacturer types) connected to the HP Omnibook 600 or 4000 Enhanced Port Replicator (Docking Station) SCSI port + a SCSI-2 CD-ROM drive (most manufacturer types) connected to a NewMedia Bus Toaster SCSI-II PCCard Adapter + a SCSI-2 CD-ROM drive (most manufacturer types) connected to a Panasonic KXLC002 SCSI-II PCCard Adapter + a SCSI-2 CD-ROM drive (most manufacturer types) connected to a PCCard for UJDCD450 SCSI Adapter + the MicroSolutions Backpack Parallel Port CD-ROM drive (Model 164550) connected to the HP Omnibook's integrated parallel port connector + the HP J2927A CD-ROM drive and PCCard SCSI Adapter + the HP Broadband Service Analyzer Software Installation Disk (CD-ROM) p/n E5200-10200 + a PC with a 3.5" floppy disk drive and CD-ROM drive combination Option 2-Using DOS ------------------ Option 2 runs the restore utility on the software installation CD-ROM directly from the DOS command line. The user must ensure the laptop PC is bootable and a CD-ROM drive is accessible from DOS, otherwise these tasks must be performed manually. This is the preferred option when a CD-ROM drive is already accessible from DOS or when one of the CD-ROM drive and interface combinations supported by Option 1 is not available. Requirements ............ You need * a recovery system if your laptop PC won't boot (you need to pre-make this) * a CD-ROM drive and interface including manufacturer's installation instructions and drivers. * the HP Broadband Service Analyzer Software Installation Disk (CD-ROM) p/n E5200-10200 Option 1-Standalone procedure ----------------------------- 1 Using an alternate PC with a 3.5" floppy disk drive, at the DOS prompt type C:> FORMAT A: /S to create a bootable diskette. You must use the /S option. 2 Using an alternate PC with both 3.5" floppy disk and CD-ROM drives, and the diskette created in Step 1, either * use Microsoft Windows" File Manager to drag and drop the contents of \E5200050\FLOPPY and all its subdirectories from the CD-ROM onto the floppy diskette \ directory * use the XCOPY command from DOS to copy the contents of \E5200050\FLOPPY and all its subdirectories from the CD-ROM onto the floppy diskette \ directory C:> XCOPY :\E5200050\FLOPPY\ A:\ /Y /S /E /V 3 Connect one of the supported CD-ROM drive/interface configurations (see "Option 1-Standalone" on page\x1110) to the laptop PC. 4 Insert the CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive. 5 Insert the floppy diskette created in Steps 1 and 2 into the laptop PC's floppy diskette drive. 6 Pressing CTRL-ALT-DEL simultaneously to reboot the laptop PC.
