Charles St. Payphone My first 'real' recording. What a typical Boston payphone sounds like. I listen to the Verizon Boston Time Announcement, an intercept in Acushnet, get hung up on by a toll operator, and hear the old Verizon 411 system. |

Verizon 411 On September 23rd, 2004 Verizon replaced their existing 411 system in Boston with a newer system (Voiced by Darby Bailey) designed for less interaction with live operators. I put it to test. |

| Verizon Lawrence Tandem Trailer Verizon's 5ESS LD tandem in Lawrence has 2 exchanges assigned to it (978-814 & 351-814) which terminate out to this recording. These are intresting exchanges, as that can't be reached within the 128 LATA, and if you try it from an outside LATA, the whole exchange seems to terminate on this recording. What I like about this recording is the fact the trailer says 'Lawrence Tandem', which is a throwback to the New England Telephone days. Very old, very scratchy, and the audio fades in and out in the beginning. Very Old School. |
