Letter to GLAAD

Dear folks:

I read that GLAAD is upset about the Merriam-Webster thesaurus accessible from AOL which listed synonyms for homosexual which included fag, faggot, dyke and sodomite, and that gay protesters caused AOL to remove the link and M-W to revise its thesaurus.

My questions are three:

(1) If gays call themselves queers, why are they upset about being called fags, etc? Does this mean that queer is now acceptable, but fag, etc, is not?

(2) Dykes on Bykes is (for example) a well-known event in the San Francisco Bay-Gay Area. How can gays maintain (or imply) that dyke is a slur when they use it?

(3) In passing, I noticed that I could not find an email address on the GLADD website. Does this mean you guys get so much defamation from your site that you try to make it difficult for folks to contact you?

Thanks for your attention.
