Dear Dr Krupp:
Some years ago you gave a kind review to my little booklet The Most Powerful Idea Ever Discovered, for which I again thank you.
My reason for writing is that there is a lot of stuff going around the Net about a planet (Planet X, Niburu, etc) which is supposed to cause severe disturbances to earth in the spring of next year, or at least in not too long a time. It is also claimed that the mainstream media, government officialdom, etc, is failing to warn people because of the fear of panic. So since you are a major figure (star?) in astronomy, I am hoping that I can get some striaght dope from you about this matter. Of course I realize that, since you are a Fellow of CSICOP, you would be among the first to be skeptical about any such claims. For this reason I especially value your opinion.
FYI, the following are a couple of URLs which state the 'Planet X Problem':

Thanks for your attention.
PS: I got a chuckle out of your email address.
[Dr Krupp responds:]
Dear Mr. Bryant:
Thank you for your e-mail message dated 18 May 2002. Please know there is no evidence for Planet X or Niburu or whatever, and certainly there is no evidence any object is on its way to disturb earth, next spring or any time in the forseeable future. Mainstream media and government are not capable of concealing information of this kind, and government has a lot more down-to-earth panics to juggle.
If Planet X did exist, were to arrive by next spring, and able to shift the earth's polar axis, its presence would already be widely known. Amateur astronomers likely would have discovered it independently.
I reviewed the two websites you mentioned. One is obsolete and no longer functioning. There is nothing credible on the other. Innuendo, unattributed assertions, and incorrect information are, however, provided.
Avoiding phantom planets,
E.C. Krupp --
