I am at the tower level with the mystic mouths. I have solved the puzzle
about the parchment and liquid. I'm stuck on the one about the hidden glow
from below, and the one about feast and famine. Do I have to go back down to
the catacombs?

Since this is the spoilers topic, I'll post the items I remember that you had
to give them.

[searching for paper] Ut oh. I can't seem to find my list. [thinks for a
moment] Not sure on these, but I believe it was: 5 Rocks, Red gem, Cursed
weapon, Rotten food, and I can't remember the rest -- sorry!

ANYONE: I'm in the room in the second tower, 3rd level up, I believe. It's
the level with the Khelben resurrection scene. The room has 5 soft spots laid
down in a + pattern, 6 glass walls, an 2 teleporters, each behind a pit --
HELP!! How do you get through this to the other door?

Thanks,

Re: the magic mouths - you forgot the Mantis idol (and the aforementioned

named "Hunger"? I was under the impression it did.

I found Amber, but you need a thief to pick the lock to get to her, on the
second level of the temple. Never have found any of those weird orange keys.

Jarik, as far as thieves go, you could probably use Insal to pick the locks,
before you sleep and he runs off with some of your stuff. If you need the
disloyal little thief, before you sleep, just leave your valuable stuff laying
on the floor and he want steal it.
I've figured out the mouth puzzles, and have entered the beholder area.
I've killed a mess of those things. The one stuck in the hole in the ceiling
was funny. Does killing helpless monsters make you evil or something.
Otherwise why would they put these little scenes in the game. Every monster
I've helped has tried to kill me afterward.
After wander around on this level I've found the tornado elevator, in the
area with false walls. The floor plates seem to make the walls move, is there
anything significant here?

I've been stumbling around the Magic Mouth level for a bit now, and have all
but the Natures Beauty mouth taken care of. WHERE can I find the item for this
particular mouth. My brains must have gone on strike, cause I"m feeling kinda
slow about this one item. I've got all the rest of the mouths appeased. :deep

Nature's Beauty - Once you handle the mouth that wants the Mantis idol, a door
elsewhere on the level opens. Go back there. If the area you're talking about
with the false walls and floor plates is the part marked the "Test of Vision",
then YES, the area is useful - it is the end of the silver tower. I solved it
just by running through it without mapping, but I think you have to hit 4
floor plates and two hidden buttons. Then the exit opens up.

Step on the different + pressure plates and throw/shoot items into the
teleporters and look behind the glass walls. Your items are behind there
pushing down on pressure plates.

Ack! Thanks, Jim -- I'll be sure to try that.

R.TRUEMAN: You want a list of horns? Let's see here.
North Wind: Catacombs, First level down. Southwestern part of map
                  in a guard's bed.
East Wind: Catacombs, before first nightmare level. The level
where you find Calandra and the millions of Skeletal
Warriors. Found in the northeastern section.
                  After the second moon key is used, go N, W, W, W, W, W,
                  W, N. Poof.
South Wind: First Nightmare Level. In the south-centre of this level
there are 5 pushbutton doors. The second from
the bottom has a passage that leads north. You need
two moon keys and a spider key. It's right after
the spider-locked door. (Following this are some
stairs up and some scrolls you can release with a grey
                  key.)
West Wind: Second Nightmare level. In a passage to the south
about 7 squares long near an ant generator (hole)

When you have all the horns, go all the way upstairs via the stairs in the
South Wind corridor and toot 'em all at the carving in the main (entry) hall
of the temple.

Enjoy!

You need the crystal hammer from the place with the disapearing walls. You
have to go through an illusionary wall, and up a tornado elevator to get it.
Then find the exit, something to do with floor plates and buttons on walls,
don't know how I hit the right combination. Then you will be faced with a
couple of beholders to fight. Put your hand on the pedestal, and you'll wind
up back in the temple. Go upstairs to the door where you need the mark of
darkmoon and it will open. Then take the crystal hammer and smash the glass
shield and it's on to the blue tower.
Which is where I'm at now. Anyone know how to get past the glass walls?

Randy: Really? I could have sworn I used a crystal hammer to get past that
shield, and since I'm in the second tower, apparently it wasn't quite as
necessary as they'd have had us believe.

Which set of glass walls are you referring to? The set with the 3 levers and
the pushbutton, or the 5 soft spots in the + formation? Either way, answers
to both of those have already been posted either here on in T21.

Right now, I'm stuck in the Medusae Maze (argh) and can't seem to find the
"trap the ladies...", etc. Am currently saved in front of a pushbutton door
that leads to a brick wall and can't seem to get past there.

Is it just me or are the walls really moving, making mapping here a REAL pain.

 E7 00 - +3 Cloak

There's a long north/south hallway in the Medusa maze that flips your

Howie: [Fwd from T21] You're going to have to do the rest of that level first.
there are a series of teleporters on this level, the shell key is after you
jump through either the first or second. The crystal key MAY be found near
one of the polished shields -- I'm not sure. Hopefully, you have a cleric
with True Sight on this one, because there's at least one shield hidden behind
a fake wall.

To get into the crimson tower, you need all the parts of Talon. Namely, the
Tounge (blade), hilt, and Eye. Put the 3 in there, and voila.

J.BUVEL: First off, PLEASE do not try to edit your messages with the arrow
keys at the bottom of your keyboard! Every tim you hit the backspace key
there, it actually shows up to the rest of us as [D [D [D.. (Read your msg
23 to see what I mean. ;)

You may have made the same mistake I made and may have used the first copper
key you got on the wrong door. If that's the case, you'll have to load an
older game or start new. You said you have moved down a few levels in the
catacombs -- In the level with the spiders, there is one copper key, and on
the level 2 above that, be sure to search all of the beds )actuall, be sure to
do that on all the levels that HAVE beds.) Luck!

Alan - You got the ``MAPAJ'', whatever that is, right? How DID you get past
the 'ring master'? And what is there to get past? That's where I'm sitting
right now -- Found the generator for cure poison keys -- that was fun for a
little while. [grin] Right now, I'm just bouncing back and forth between
those 3 levels (3sets of stairs, anyway.) managed to figure out the
teleporters on the level with the alcove. Noticed that the alcove starts
eating things eventually, reloaded, etc, etc. What now? Any hints
appreciated.

Randy: To get past the sentry, step on the plate farthest back and left
(facing the sentry wall), Turn right, throw 2 items -- sentry should move
towards that side. Once it's all the way to the right, you're clear to move
up. (Note: Make sure you don't need those items) You'll then see a hole in
the wall for the Eye -- Put it in, take it out, poof. Open door.

Let's see here. Got ``Mapaj'', whatever that's supposed to be , and am
currently stuck on the riddles "I am the ringmaster, watch me fly" or
whatever, and "One ring to join them all!". If I didn't know better, I'd have
to say that those message-plates look like they have coin slots on the top of
them. I'm assuming that something has to be done with that little alcove,
since I'm hearing footsteps the loudest there and have since cleared the rest
of the level.

Tried putting that Mapaj thing in the alcove, and the alcove ate it.
Interestingly enough, the alcove wouldn't eat keys or picks -- everything
else. Gulp.

Got a kick out of the proper application of the ``sticky paper'' too. [grin]

Put the stickky paper on the floor by the jumping items in the ring-master
hall, on the same side as the items. They stick to the paper, you get 2
Crimson rings. Haven't gotten past the 2 doors with coin slots by them.

In the other part of the red tower the alcove (triangular) was giving me

3x3 room in the temple? For some reason, I don't seem to have seen that -- is
it a hidden one, and if so, where is it?

Skull key.. In the catacombs, one level down, there should be stairs leading
down, facing north, in the centre of the map. Down those stairs, there should
be a room that you need a grey key to get into. Now I'm not sure if there's a
Skull or a Skull Key in there, but since I made a note on my map, I'm going to
assume it's a skull key.

Hm.. Now I notice another note that I made. 2 levels down, on the level with
all of the undead, owards the southwest is a corridor of 7 doors (3 north
and 4 south) The door farthest to the west on the north wall leads to a
small chamber. I also made the notation SKULL there, so we'll assume that I'm
talking about keys.

I also see a notation near the fireball trap on that level (pull the lever,
get hit by a fireball) near the northwest side. The notation says, "Use first
Skull Key here!" Oh. I know why, that will lead you to millions of skeletal
warriors, and finally your first dark moon key. (See early in topic 21 for
hints on the skeletal warriors)

Hope that helps a bit,

- Scott

lots of rearranging walls. There is a 'guy' at the north west corner of the
map that will trade you for the right coin. Keep moving around until the path
to the north west corner opens up.

Shields :
  1. On the level BELOW the level with basilisks, there is an illusionary wall
on the east side of the large room west on the map. The teleporter leads to a
medusa shield.
  2. On the level with the basilisks and bulettes; the shield is on the very
north of the room with all the fireball traps.
  3. South of the fireball traps room, a magic mouth will challenge you.
Accept and meet the challenge and you will get Eye of Talon as well as another
shield.
  4. On the level with the elephant monsters, the fourth shield is in a room
to the east of the two monsters standing as guards (in front of the
teleporter).
  5. On the same level, the fifth shield is in the large room with the
Starfire scepter (north-west on the map).
  6. Also on the same level, before the door where Kelben appeared and gave
the party an amulet, there is an illusionary wall on the west side of the
corridor. The sixth shield lies behind the illusionary wall (center-south on
the map).

Jason,

Been 'wandering' since I read your message and haven't noticed _any_ moving
walls, much less a little guy who has an affinity for coins.

Are we talking about the same level? "2 levels below the coin slots," to me,
means the stairs down from the main entryway where you run into that guy who
drops the flail. I didn't really find anything else useful there. The level
is so small, I'll even do a quick map of it. (X = pathway)

   XXXXX
  XXXXXX
 XX X
 X
 XXXXX->Stairs Up
  X X
  XXX

It all seemed pretty constant to me -- nothing moving. Last level I remember
things moving around was that 'vision test.'

Am I headed in the right direction here?

Thanks,

- Scott

Problem, I had to start this game with new characters, and although I'm at the
Basilik level now, they have not advanced further than about 195,000 exp.
points, needless to say, I do not have key spells yet such as stone to flesh
or true sight....How can i boost exp. quickly, short of going back and fight
monsters endlessly until i catch up. I know about Alain, but he only
advances you one level, big deal, takes my level 9 mage and turns him into 10,
no I'll hold off and use him for going from 11 to 12. Any suggestions out
there?????

If you didn't bring over your EOB I super characters with all of their weapons
and wands etc... this game is really hard for a new set of characters. The
game should have come with a character editor to make your characters equal to
what the EOB I characters would be.

JARIK, thank you for the help with the skull keys. I guess however that my
problem is that I do no know where to find the "GREY" key. Do you remember
where it is?

The 3x3 room is 1 level up in the temple. If you destroy all the statues
there is a secret door behind one of them. In the room there is a teleporter
that takes you to the 3X3 room with the soft center.

Thanks for the data on the Talon "sword" key. I had to go on a destructive
tear to finally get a cleric with truing seeing and now that I've got it I
STILL can't find the other shell and crystal keys. I found the shell key in
the firemaze and got a crystal key when I "offed" the bulette guarding the
Sentry room. I've been through the rest of the tower and at this point have 3
medusa shields and the Eye of Talon. Still can't find the other shell and
crystal keys. AAARRRGGG!!!!!

As I received the game a bit later than you fellows, I'm afraid I need more
help than I can give. I'm stumped for the first time on the nightmare level.

I have one darkmoon key, have swept the ant level, and have opened the spider
doors. I just need (I think) to open the second darkmoon door. I'm holding
off on the fight with all the margoyles that guard the cursed sword and other
items (my best saved game will still probably end with character death), but I
don't recall seeing a darkmoon key over there.

Can someone tell me how to find the second key?

The coin exchange room is 1 level below 2 doors opened by coin-slots, not key-
holes. It is all past the crimson ring warps.
I am now stuck fighting mindflayers. Seems to be no end to them. I kill and
kill, but they keep coming. Hints?

For gaining ExP, you can only fight monsters unless you hex-edit. I prefer to
fight creatures. Here is a list of their ExP values; Aerial servant=2500,
Ant=8, Basilisk=243, Beholder=3500, Bullette=1000, Gas spore=30, Gel cube=243,
Hell hound=106, Mantis=350, Margoyle=243, Skeleton Warrior=500, Flying
snake=105, Spider=162, Wasp=105, Wisp=750, Wolf=16, Human warrior=162,
Priest=500, Cleric=500, Mage=1125, Talon ( elephant nose)=2750, Giant=1750,
Salamander=500, Medusa=500, Mindflayer =2000. Those are the ones I have seen
so far. There are 2 different types of mages in the red tower. Ones with
faces, whose value I gave, and ones with dark hoods, who I couldn't stop and
check (they were too tough and dangerous <g>).

Ghost: You're welcome!

Alan: "One level below two doors opened by coin slots."

I'm assuming here that the coin slots are the messages on the walls
themselves. Am I wrong? Mind giving _explicit_ directions to the place
where the exchange is to take place? Apparently I'm got some kind of mind-
block here that isn't letting me figure this one out.

ARRRGH! With the non ending of EOB1, I was sure that the characters wouldn't
be portable. So I erased them 4-ever. (sigh) Starting out with these wimpy
characters, while level 10 characters with plus 5 weapons were possible is
maddening! Has anyone got a character editor they could put up in the library?
I saw the information on changing the files, and I have Norton, but I wouldn't
know a hex from a hoax!! Still, if someone could walk me thru it, I would love
to give changing it a try. Anxiously awaiting a reply.......Thanks in
advance!!!

J.Buvel, if you haven't fought any Skeleton Warriors your not in the right
part of the catacombs. Go back up to the temple and map it down again. Drop
something to make a trail to see where you have been so you don't go the same
way twice.

BLUE GHOST, I am at the start of the third dungeon level. You enter into a
big room. To the right is a room with a lever fireball trap and a door that
needs a skeleton key. There is also a secret door to the right that has
another secret door in it that opens into prisons. In the prisons their is
another door that needs a skeleton key. To the left of the main room is a
maze that opens into a 3x2 room. There is a door here that needs a grey(?)
key. This is where I am stuck. I do not know where to find any skeleton keys
or the grey key. People told me there is a skeleton key behind the door that
needs the grey key. PLEASE HELP!!!

To: JARIK Scott N. Hartsman

cc: A.GIOVETTI Alfred C. Giovetti

depress the north and east plate and throw an item thru the north
east teleporter. depress the central and east pressure plate and
throw an item thru the north teleporter. depress the east and south
pressure plate and throw an item through the north teleporter.
depress the south and west plate and throw thru the south west

J.Buvel - I found 4 grey keys on the 1st dungeon level: One with the two
guards in the western passage, one on the shelf next to Insal's cell, and two
with a group of guards in the eastern passage through the door just past the
lever/pit trap. Did you find all of those? .......... ANYONE - HELP! I am
stuck in the 3x4 moving pit room on the elephant- nose level. I've gone past
the snake's head carving, down the stairs and across the underside of the
room, but according to the map I drew there doesn't seem to be a way across.
Do I have to do something to alter the pit cycle, or am I just missing the
path?

I need either the first skeleton key or the key to the round black with yellow
ring keyhole to the left of the main room, through the small maze, at the
beginning of the third dungeon level. HELP!!
