I am trying to source the book Hacker Disassembling Uncovered 2 Rev-edition
by Kris Kaspersky, but this edition seems to be sold out worldwide, with no details about a reprint. I have been Googling for several days, but with limited success. The only copy I was able to trace, was a second hand one with RC Books in the US, but they want +400,- USD, which seems rather high in comparison to the original sale price of 45 USD!

Can anybody give me a tip where I can purchase a copy, even a second hand one for a reasonable price?

I am also intrigued by the fact that this book which apparently was a great success (otherwise it would not have been sold out), is not in re-print. Does anybody have an idea why?

Thanks RCER

There appears to be a copy of Hacker Disassembling Uncovered ("http://www.woodmann.com/forum/showthread.php?p=76564#post76564")here:

http://www.freebookspot.com/TotalList.aspx

but it may not be 2Rev. But it's better than nothing!

Search for Kaspersky in the "List."

JMI,

Thanks for the tip, but I already have an e-copy of the 1st edition, which I am reading right now. (The second edition is apparently completely re-written)

Anyway it is good to know that this Freebookspot exists.

I also followed Arcades advice and have posted a request on OpenRCE

Thanks again

Or, you can leech it off in soft copy. Print it and you've got what you want.

Aimless,

Thanks for the tip, but, the second revision doesn't seem o be available in e-form, at least not that I know. If you happen to know a link please feel free to share it.

To make this clear to everybody, I really would like to get my hands on a copy of this book, but I am not necessarily looking for freebies. In my opinion a reverser like Kris deserves to get his share of the royalties.

Unfortunately I am not living in the US, abut am presently staying in Kazakhstan, so the closest would be Singapore. However a return ticket for sure will cost more than 400,- USD.

Nevertheless thanks for the tip

RCER:

Don't know if this link is still good, but I found a copy for sale at Amazon.co.uk for L30.99, which, if my converter is correct, is 57.75 USD + shipping.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Hacker-Disassembling-Uncovered-Kris-Kaspersky/dp/1931769648

The cover shows "Second Edition." If it is still available, that's a whole lot cheaper that $400, even with whatever they might charge for shipping to Kazakhstan. There may be other online booksellers who have copies for sale over the internet and shipping to you.

RCER: If you are in Kazakhstan, consider a trip to Russia train with Kris himself. He recently offer to give an apprentice food and shelter at his home. (He appeared to be serious about it. search for his posts in www.openrce.org.

Yes, i seen that post. He lives in the mountains. If he wasn't well known, I would be worried about it!

Sounds good though, could be a great drinking week.

JMI:

Thanks for the link, which is still valid, however the book is not available anymore. Instead they are offering to find a copy for the interested buyer.

If this book is still for sale somewhere, it will be in a small bookshop which doesn`t advertise online. I googled all the available, online resellers in the USA, Canada, Brazil, Netherlands Germany, France, UK Belgium,Italy, Switzerland, Austria, Greece , South Africa, Australia, Singapore, and even tried one or two Iranian sites, but with no luck except the expensive copy mentioned earlier. I have one of my Russian friends looking on Russian sites to see if he has any luck

Naides:

Good to hear from you, and thanks for all your previous help with reversing of flexlm targets

Subject the post from Kris, I have seen this one as well on WASM.RU
http://www.wasm.ru/forum/viewtopic.php?id=26513

I wrote him a PM thanking for this great offer, which I really would like to accept. Unfortunately my wife has no aspirations in reverse engineering. She actually hates computers, and she is more into shopping, prefers to spend her time in Paris or London. So you can imagine the "conflict of interest"

vect0r:

I had the same thought when I saw Kris post and thought this is to good to be true! But listening to you guys, it indeed seems to be a genuine offer.

She'd rather be shopping in Paris than going with you to the peaceful Caucasus Mountain Range?
