Hello everyone,

Id like some pointers on where to begin to learn cracking. I have good programming skills, i know enough assembly to exploit a buffer overflow. Inputs on tutorials that really helped you when you (the reader) started out would be great. Thx.

I was looking more for a specific tutorial, on krobar's theres a boatload of it and its overwhelming. Any specific, up to date, tutorial that gives a good start?

Also, I downloaded the two "Beginning to Crack" videos (off suprnova), and the guy teaches you how to crack a soft by changing the conditional statments 74-->75 or 85-->84 etc the second one uses OllyDBG to get a serial for a name you input. Other then that, thats all i know. And I wanted to know, is OllyDBG a replacment for softICE? What are the advantages and disadvantages of both? Thx for your time.

As I can understand so, SoftIce is more powerfull than Olly Debugger. Mainly beacuse SoftIce lies under the system, you can debud every file you want. OllyDBG can only debug DLL and EXE.. I guess that's the main diffrence.
OllyDBG only got the good looking GUI, plug-ins and easy to use.

For tutorials, look in the links at Krobar and at RETeam and the, check always one cracker's links. That's the best way, instead of asking for links, it's only annoying. Many are dead, accept it, just dont cry over that, be happy for those who work instead :P

Then begin here:

http://krobar.cjb.net/
http://crackmes.de
http://biw.rult.at/

Read so many tutorials as possible and try to crack some crackmes at crackmes.de

http://www.reteam.org is also a good place. you WILL find some good places, if you only know how to explore and search.

Good Luck!!

PS: I saw "Hackers" before I began Cracking :P

the topmost link is dead (kwim32asm.cjb.net). I never heard of that site before, was curious what it would be.. Gives a blank page (source gave a javascript encoded section, and thats all).

PS. Of course, I couldnt resist seeing what the encoded section said, so here it is, in case you too are curious, it says:
document.write('<script src=http://ads.cjbmanagement.com/script></script>')

hm, maybe.. That's a good site for learning asm, but I already know that one ;)
If you're gonna learn Win32ASM, http://www.madwizard.org is also a GREAT place to start.

Thx everyone for their input. I found a really good site, its in french, but i speak the language. They have 6 "mementos" they call it, and it really gives you a good approach on all the angles. The difficulty level grows as you get near the 6th memento. The first two tutorials give out a really good base, and they are also translated in english.
