Could someone give me a point in the right direction to open these type of files.

The system files may be open or reprogrammed. You may be use PE Explorer to edit or May be use Visual C++ for programming

The .sys file can be 32bit or 16bit.
Both have different approaches. :D

yes 16bit .sys. Even 8bit are thr. (dont forget QDOS and MSDOS)
