View Full Version : Attention new forum members!
Hi.
I've noticed that a lot of people sign up for forum membership but never post anything. Does that mean we have a complete forum, that there's nothing more to add to it? Perhaps it's time to send this thing off to a publisher. We could make a fortune...
Seriously though, how come you sign up but decide to remain in the shadows? We need you all to contribute to be able to bring this message board forward and make it better. That's why i'm going to ask that all you newcomers answer a couple of questions:
1) How did you end up at reteam.org ?
2) What is your objective on this forum?
3) Which topics of discussion interest you the most?
4) What languages do you speak?
5) If you haven't - How come you haven't started any threads about topics that interest you?
6) Anything else you want to add.
Regards, sna

Welcome TheTenantUk2,
I'm always glad to see new faces on the forums here. A quick note about sna's post:
The post is not meant to scare people off, but rather to find out more about why people are signing up and not posting. Personally I think its just a matter of holding your nick for the forum in case someone happens along and uses the same name. In any event it shows that people are interested and thats what matters. The forums are continually growing here and new faces are always welcome, with or without posts.
cheers,
-DR

I may or may not post, unless it seems something importent to add. I tend to be a knowledge seeker, and from time to time make the jump from that knowledge to something new. A simple idea, or perhaps a different way of looking at something. I try very hard not to post frivolus things.
I did recognise a few handles from other sites that I belong to, so that prompted me to register here. I have followed RE for quite a while, I am pushing 60, so I have aquired a little information
surfing the web, and just from reading. I started way back on a C64, learning 6502 assembler, and have been hooked on computers and programming ever since.

Also very glad to see a new RE site, I have followed Fravia for a while, until he left, perhaps I will see his work online again.

I am actually a member at alot of other forums. Mostly iden (phone company releases phones strictly for nextel) forums. The amount of hacking that goes on there is insane. The phones have lots of things that are desired to be changed. One of the more recent programs that i was apart of releasing, actually downloaded a theme into the phone. It was being produced by this faggot and his friends. He claimed it to be unhackable well another guy took that as a challenge. Though he did do most of the work i did contribute. Well now i want to be able to learn as much as i can so that any program i come across i can unpack. I mean for informational purpouses only. lol.

Hello everybody,
I am new to the forum and would like to introduce me decently.
1) How did you end up at reteam.org ?
I was looking for a way to "backup" software protection dongle's. I have obtained some dongles legally but this does not protect you against theft, lost or broken dongles.
I was looking for emulation software that could replace physical protection of the software.
2) What is your objective on this forum?
I was looking for a way to learn the emulation. Once I master this, I would put a clear procedure so that even a newbie could understand it. There is something in dutch that says: If you give a fish they have food for one day, If you learn them fishing they never have hunger again.
3) Which topics of discussion interest you the most?
At most the emulation of hardware dongles. The protection scheme behind it. The interaction scheme between software and hardware and how to make the software believe that the dongle is there.
4) What languages do you speak?
Dutch (mothertongue)
French (fluent)
Englisch (fluent)
German (moderate)
Spanish (moderate)
5) If you haven't - How come you haven't started any threads about topics that interest you?
I always look first on a forum if somebody else has not asked the same question as I have. I think it is very annoying to have similar threads coming back and back again without people looking what has been written before. Attention can better be put on "new" items. This implies that you first have read the past.

I was searching for dongle duplication or emulation tutorials in CrackZ's website when i found reteam.org.

1) How did you end up at reteam.org ?
Looking for a solution to a problem.
2) What is your objective on this forum?
Learn more about dongle protection schemes. Possibly even write a plain language essay on methods of reversal.
3) Which topics of discussion interest you the most?
Primarily the emulation of existing dongles.
4) What languages do you speak?
Still learning English.
5) If you haven't - How come you haven't started any threads about topics that interest you?
I did on a similar forum. Apparently I asked the wrong questions. Not sure what to ask yet.
6) Anything else you want to add.
I did some RE years ago and enjoyed it. Things were much easier when everything fit on one 5.25" floppy. You fellows have accomplished amazing things.
I see that many of your new members are just looking for enough information to solve a particular problem. I also notice serious coders detest this type of member. RE is more about the journey than the destination so I completely understand.
You would probably get fewer annoying newbie questions (can you patch my dongle for me?) if you composed a detailed page or pages of information to help the beginner get started.
Even those of us with low level programming experience get frustrated at the lack of documentation for the work others have done.
I'm documenting my journey through the hasp and will gladly publish it in newbie cookbook format if it ever reaches the point of being useful.

1) How did you end up at reteam.org ? - Inevitable, visit as many RE sites as I can find.
2) What is your objective on this forum? - To answer any questions from others as I am qualified to, gain knowledge about anything I am working on but don't have the knowledge and to maybe see something interesting and new presented that I wasn't aware of.
3) Which topics of discussion interest you the most? - Asprotect, cracking in general, tools and plugins, general stuff about the Reversers themselves... I find it interesting and enjoyable talking to other reversers and getting to "know" them as far as it is possible in the net world anyway.
4) What languages do you speak? English and whatever google can translate for me - you could say I am goolingual!
5) If you haven't - How come you haven't started any threads about topics that interest you? - The time factor, I am busy reversing, work, guitar, kids, speedway, fishing, etc etc
6) Anything else you want to add. -
1. Dont ever be afraid to ask the dumb questions. BUT:
Before Always use search in the forums you are thinking of posting to, and/or Google first - if you don't you are setting yourself up for ether no answers or flames. Most newbies fall into the trap of asking stuff that is already on the forums. If you need to ask something related to RE, and you have spent less than an hour searching forums and google, you haven't done enough work to "earn" some more experienced person helping you. I don't make the "rules" - Don't Judge me!! This is not so much as a rule than an observation I have made over the last umm. over 17 years on the net. Also if you arent prepared to spend that amount of time searching and working things out, you are probably going to find it difficult learning anything RE related because it is HARD and requires lots of work.
2. don't lose marriages because of RE - it ain't fun.. enjoy other hobbies.
3. dont jump into stuff too hard, learn some foundations first.. spend time on PE format, Import tables and follow heaps of unpacking and olly/ida tiutes - dont just download them FOLLOW THEM
4. & 5. HAVE FUN

Learn more on RE / making software available for general learning / skills transfer
3) Which topics of discussion interest you the most?
How to, troubleshooting
4) What languages do you speak?
Afrikaans (native), English, Portuguese, some Spanish, German, Xhosa, Zulu, Tswana.
5) If you haven't - How come you haven't started any threads about topics that interest you?
Registered one smoke break ago, will sniff out something / find a few who can help me learn
6) Anything else you want to add
Old dogs CAN learn new tricks, the tricks just need to be interesting enough....
Seriously : I have an above board (legal) opportunity, but cannot present a professional solution without the right software - at huge expense, which I just don't have. Catch 22 - there must be a way to break the deadlock.
A free thought : Knowledge is liberating - Liberation is a struggle.
Regards to all.
