I figure this is as good a place as any to start the inevitable thread on the IDA rip recently released by Zenith. My standpoint on the subject is that Zenith made a big mistake on this release and I believe their supplier is definitely in need of a lawyer.. not to mention the damage this did to the scene.. It's stupid leaking a watermarked copy of a piece of software by a known company like Datarescue to the web that cause the busts. If you are gonna release IDA then take the time and inject the functionality into the demo and fix the database problems that plague most cracks of IDA. At first it saddened me seeing Pierre Vandevenne posting that datarescue's sales are so low after IDA is cracked. But after some words by email with the man, my position on the subject has changed. They intend to furthur the limitations on who they sell to and keep the watermarks as they are. My position on it, was to recomend that they did something similar to what flashfxp does for their protection system. 4.31 beta will be out soon because of this and the crack will again be outdated. Lets hope another hot headed group doesn't bring out the new version. If you like this software then buy it. It's one of the main tools used across the world for disassembling. $300 is well worth it i'd say.

Im gonna go ahead and agree with you about IDA being worth the cash. But then we both know that isn't entirely the problem. Im quite sure your buddy Peirre wouldn't (expecially now) sell you a copy of IDA. Maybe the sales dropped because they are being bigger dicks about who they sell it to? Im really sorry their shit got stolen, especially if the cc# was fake. They deserve the money for it. And if someone wants to throw down $300 for one version of IDA and release it. Let them, you got your money and they dont get their updates.
The thing i dont agree with is thier attitude. Im gonna use IDA, the newest version i can get. If i can pay $300 bucks for it, then i will. But i doubt they would sell to me (dont worry, im gonna try in the coming months once i get my funds straightened out), so i have to go with the next best option. Yeah, the free demo is great, and i almost commend them on doing it. But that version was free anyway. Google would have it for you if datarescue didnt. If they wanna treat everyone as common theives, then ill play the part. You want my respect, give me yours. But thats not how it goes. Enough of my incoherent babbling..for now anyway.

I agree with Crudd totally... couldnt phrase it better...

I would personally pay for my IDA Standard if the price has been more affordable... because i use IDA only for fun once in a while with no commercial purpose and with no intention to release or sell crack... 300 bucks is a bit too much for that kind of hobby... i have been using 4.15 ever since and i find no need to upgrade except some plug-ins will only work on 4.30 but then again i can live without those plug-in... though me and some friends were planning of putting our money together to buy one version to use among ourselves but we found out that even then we could not buy it... what else can i say? I know it is not allowed in the license but hey, i am sure some ppl with proper license lend it to their friends anyway...

Heh.. after all Zenith is not that dumb...

Their retail license is already expired and i guess they dont intend to upgrade their license hence they dare to release it...

I would also by the product if i had allot of money.. But for me, I'm going for the warezed version instead, I can't afford for $300.. Anyton lower and they might have sold as hell (guess that they still does) but only my opinion.

My appartmant, phone, power at home, and so on... My lousy work... Well, it's for the rich ones.

Hi guys,
well,my first post for a subject that made me feel quite uncomfortable when i saw the link in #REA.The guy who released this should have already regretted it.What has also amazed me in Pierre Vandevenne's post is that he has mentioned Quine's cracking of IDA and has shown admiration on it.It also amazes me that he speaks through mails with you well-known crackers too. These guys seem to be taking real consideration of the cracking scene, which is sensible in some way.But i don't think that selling on limits would help to the cause.
In fact, programs like IDA,WDasm,SoftIce will always be warezed, even if this is good or bad.Since they are the primary tools for the cracker, the cracked versions are gonna spread like hell.I also think that more sensible price would help a lot.For a complete "workout",IDA is not enough. One also needs a debugger. And if he is in for some serious stuff,SoftIce is needed also, which kinda makes the price very very high...
I don't really understand why people tend to publish their cracks for everybody out there.Personally,i haven't and i won't publish any crack for any program.I only believe that knowledge is necessary. So,if i cannot crack something,i better not crack it or try more. This is how i see it at least...
Anyway, this is just me expressing some thoughts,as i find this subject really interesting...

Well on teh contrary actually.. Pierre did exchange emails.. but no he didn't take crackers into consideration.. I think if the price stayed at 250$ even then a lot of reversers would buy it.. and those who couldn't afford it would stay with the 4.30 which works just fine. But as i said earlier. Pierre didn't take notice of this, instead deciding to name all crackers and reversers as common thieves.. the only consideration that he took was to his sales. But again i stay with my former position that Zenith really fucked up on this one.. its things like this that bring on the busts.

I dont believe cracks or warez of IDA hit their bottom line as much as they make out it does. As they probably wouldnt sell it to anyone that would even consider using a pirate copy. I myself tried to buy it legally and was denied the purchase because of my background. yes i have a 'colorful past' but nothing among the lines of piracy. the last crack/keygen i did for a group was like 5 years ago, i dont consider myself a cracker but a reverser. will i feel bad about using the warezed version? NO, because i tried to support their program with my dollars but was turned away.

-Peace out

just out of curiousity... how do they do background checks? what exactly do they look into?

I'd like to present my view about things. It is an extreme view, and I wouldn't like to get into deep discussions about it since I do that every day of my life socializing with other people :)

EVERYTHING SHOULD BE FREE

Why "EVERYTHING SHOULD BE FREE" ? Can u explain this?? U work for free? i dont think so, u get paied. The programmers also should get paied for their efforts. The problem is the price.....

Without getting into things, I just wanna say that I don't work, and I'm against the whole concept of work as it is defined today.

Well, it really depends on the lifestyle that you choose to lead. Personnally I chose at a young age to work hard during my early years to retire quickly and enjoy the after years of my life. Unfortunately some years later someone came to me and told me that their relative had done teh same thing and died 6 months after they retired.. This puts a damper on things but I gifure its a bit late now to turn back. If someone can figure out a way to not work and still live the life the life they choose to lead then all the power to them ;)
