As there have not been any new releases of Softce for almost 2 years is this solution now dead! Are there better solutions out there?

Is SoftIce a dead duck? Should Compuware continue with the solution, or sell it? What d you think and why?

I just started using softice. The power is great, it does work some one of four XP machines I tried, the interface is really acutaly very good for a dos box.

I can not find another debugger out there that has the same ease of use as softice. I tried Ollydbg, WinDBG, IDA.... I'm not very smart mind you, but none of them acutally worked at all for me. I know they 'do' work, I just could not figure them out in the time I alloted for that task.

Softice however much a pain in the ass it is, DID work for me.

They still advertise it as part of thier DriverStudio package. Maybe they just don't have the programmers to release anything for it. It does seem like a complicated program.

I wish I could find another debugger that had the ease of use of softice (d eax, bpx, bc, bpe etc etc) but was just a single windows program debugger, not an all of windows debugger.

I think softice age is dead :( Now i usually use ollydgb to debug code, since for normal application debugging it's enough. When i must debug kernelmode code i just use remote debugging with windbg and a virtual machine, which is a lot more useful than debugging a driver on a live machine. Also in winxp there are too much never fixed troubles using softice and so on. Besides, dotnet is going to be the future of applications, so we need tools to debug IL interpreted applications. However i hope they will renew softice in someway, it has been a piece of heart for everyone!

Compuware is a bloated dead pig.
They bought NuMega to gut it.
You will see a new release of SoftIce when IBM starts making desktop OS again.
