Speech recognition - modify dictionary

I have a speech recognition software in which the main dictionary is locked. Would it be possible to change words in this dictionary by means of reverse engineering? I know nothing about reverse engineering.

You could definitely change the dictionary.. the difficulty depends on the software and the implementation.

I was thinking that if I can identify which file contains the dictionary, I could use a special tool to modify the words and then save it back in the original format so that the program would still recognise the file. Where do I start?
