hi i don't know the correct forum to post this in or if you can even help me, but i thought i'd start here.. hopefully this is fruitful or at least interesting..
i'm very interested in hacking into the operating system on a sequencer (drum machine type box) that i own.. i have ida pro and the flash operating system upgrade but here's the problem... i can tell by looking at the file in a hex editor that there are multiple parts to the file that is used to flash the firmware, that's fine but i'd like to find the part that has code that can disassembled. however i'm pretty certain that the code areas are compressed and/or encrptyed. not surprising actually, but i am wondering if there are standard ways of determining what compression or encryption has been used, or taking apart the file, and putting it back together. seems like someone has probably done stuff like this before. any pointers or answers?
thanks!
