Date: Fri, Aug 4, 1995 8:22 AM PDT From: PsychoSpy Subj: in the spirit of brotherhood of humans To: | I enjoy reading the Groom Lake Desert Rat -- but I really thought | the following was out of line: | | "We regard it as a fine American-made vehicle that is perfectly | adequate for runs to the mall and occasional off-road use, but our | personal choice is the Jap-made Toyota 4Runner for regular romps | where there ain't no roads." | | Why the use of "Jap?" Since it is considered a derogatory term by | people of Japanese heritage (myself included), I must take | exception to your using it in that context. Contrary to what you | may have heard, it is NOT an abbreviation. Also, since Japan is | still an ally and friend of the U.S., this sort of language usage | is inflammatory to certain parties. I hope the use of the term was | due to ignorance, not malice. You may want to explain this in the | next newsletter. | | By the way -- I'm not writing this for any sort of self- | aggrandizment, so please don't publish this e-mail or mention me | by e-mail address or name. I thought about waiting until Aug. 6 to | send it, but I thought that might be too much. | Write me back if you wish -- I may or may not send in my $5 | depending on the answer I get. | | Yours in the spirit of brotherhood of humans, I am sorry if you are offended, but Psychospy is not P.C., and we will continue to use the English language in its most vulgar form. We have in the past offended every special interest group including those shiftless, violence-prone males and raping, pillaging Christians. If we sanatized our work for everyone who complained, the Desert Rat would lose its edge and become as bland and limp as Wonder Bread (no offense intended to the Wonder Bread Company and their fine and wholesome product). Why are you defending only your own ethnocentric view and not the woman, Mormons, military, males, Las Vegas residents and New Yorkers we have maligned in the past? If you knew Psychospy very well, you would also see that threatening blackmail is not a wise move. We may change our ways for your reasoning but not for your $5. Your message, however, represents a valid viewpoint that must be heard. We will honor your request for anonymity and the protection of your privacy, but we cannot accept prior restraint on the content of your message, which is either valid or isn't. We will make it available on the Web as part of this reply, linked to the end of DR28. Psychospy
