Cancer Man Says Nevada Base "Unviable"

It's official: Cancer Man said on the 2/16 episode of The X-Files that the Nevada base has become "unviable."

Here is a transcript provided by one of our readers. This was the second part of a two-parter about an alien intelligence lurking in a slick of 50-weight motor oil. The oil was first encountered in the depths of the Pacific and is now occupying the body of renegade FBI agent Alex Krycek ("Apocrypha" episode 96-3X16). It's a bit complicated, but this 50-weight oil needs a human host to transport it from the ocean floor. (Oil normally rises in water, but maybe 50-weight is different, and anyway this is no ordinary motor oil.) We would like to explain how the UFO comes into the story, but we aren't sure. In any case, it can't be moved to the "Nevada base" for obvious reasons.

Cancer Man is the guy with the suspiciously Canadian accent who is always smoking a cigarette and seems to be in charge of things.

Setting: the club room in NYC where the Secret Committee That Really Runs The World hangs out. CANCER MAN enters...

COMMITTEE MEMBER #1

We've heard you acted on your own and moved the salvaged UFO to another location.

CANCER MAN

These new attempts to recover it have increased our need for security.

COMMITTEE MEMBER #2

Who else is looking for it?

CANCER MAN

In the event, I moved it as a safeguard.

COMMITTEE MEMBER #1

Someone better damn well find out how the French even knew where to look for it.

CANCER MAN

I can assure you it'll be absolutely inaccessible now.

COMMITTEE MEMBER #3

Why not bring it to Nevada, like the others?

CANCER MAN

Breaks in security and a heightened public interest have made the base in Nevada unviable. Is this why I was called here?

COMMITTEE MEMBER #2

No. We'd like an explanation about this business with the assistant director of Bureau, Skinner.

CANCER MAN

Random shooting for all I know.
