THE IRC MAFIA IS DEAD

With that out of the way, we can continue. The IRC Mafia was a group based on Multiple.org that took over channels in IRC, hung out on #mafia, and generally had a good time. Many users of IRC feared the IRC Mafia, particularly those who hang on lame channels like #bible or #ansi. A multitude of channels fell to the IRC Mafia. For days on end, former dens of lameness, sin, and iniquity were demolished. Although many claimed that the Mafia's intentions were less than noble, nothing could have been farther from the truth. It was concern for the mental wellbeing of IRC users on lame channels that drove the Mafia. Seeing people stop using IRC and being more productive was our goal. (No, really!)

As happens in most any organization, too many members and too many conflicting interests created strife for the Mafia. After seeing a lot of formerly kewl people reduced to childlike bickering, we killed the Mafia. It died sometime in June when many of the main members and practically all of the founding members quit the group and declared it dead.

These days, some of us still hang together, and we have a new private channel that where we congregate. Recently there has been talk of forming a new group out of our ranks; some oppose this while other feel it is necessary. The purpose of said group is still being determined, but whatever is decided we will not follow in the steps of the deceased IRC Mafia.

Names such as "The IRC Warriors", "Lynch's Mob", and a few non-family oriented names have been tossed around with no final decisions made. Rest assured that a group of some sort will appear soon and that you will fear it. :)
